Question on gears
I'm getting ready to make a purchase on some new gears. My GT is an auto, so I'm guessing 4.10's are what I would want to get. I'm kind of just looking for some reassurance to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I'm still a student, so I only have about another 500$ to put into my car this summer. I didn't think gears actually added any HP, but is there really that a big of a difference in accel? I'm not planning on dragging my car anytime soon, so I'm not too worried with actual HP gains, just looking for a noticable difference in performance. And I thought I read 4.10's will make LM2's sound better. Any truth? I know you guys probably hear this all the time and get tired of explaining yourselves, but it makes a difference to the more inexperienced modders. Your help is much appreciated.

You will feel the 4.10's for sure. Gears are one of the mods that you can do that is actually very noticeable. It should be one of your first mods in my opinion.
I can't think of anyway it would make your exhaust sound any different. I didn't notice any change in my LM2 when I installed my gears. And get the Ford Racing (FRPP) gears as they are the easiest to install whether it is you or your installer. Most times they go right in without much shimming.

Thanks for your input guys. I'm pretty sure I'll go with 4.10's. If I'm gonna invest the money, I might as well make it worthwhile. I was also gonna ask you guys about the bearing kit for installation. I have no experience with working on gears at all, so I'm not sure if this is something I want to take on myself. I know a few people who could possibly do it and use the kit. But if it came down to having to find a shop to do it for me, if I have the kit, do you think it would save me any money for labor at the shop?
