advice on a broken odometer

Hello all,

:help:

Can anyone tell me how to fix my broken odometer? It broke a few years ago and it stopped working just after I pushed the button to reset the trip counter. The odometer and trip counter never worked again after pushing the button that day. I see now when I push the button some slight motion behind the numbers like it's trying to engage, but nothing happens. The button pushes in and pops back like normal, but that's it. Thanks!

Erik

What year do you have if its a 94-98 like I do then its two gears that are inside the odometer that broke, only way to be sure is to open it and look at gears. Apparently Ford made the gears out of plastic that deteriorates with age. If you purchase a used gauge cluster it will most likely happen again. The only solution is to buy the gears which this person sells http://www.speedometergears.com/ . I posted this issue a while back https://mustangboards.com/general-te...light=odometer

YUP, it's a 98 and the speedometer does work fine. Thanks. Next question, is it difficult to take apart?

It is not dificult if you are somewhat handy and have a screwdriver, torx or allen keys cant remember right now but its simple and straight forward. I would get new gauge face like reverseglow or white face plus a bezel since you have to take it apart anyway.

What are you, a salesman for Mustang tunning? Good Idea, I'm pretty handy with hand tools, just keep me away from power tools.

I wish but Mods dont get paid squat for helping around here. It just makes sense for you to do that since you will have to take the gauge cluster apart. I just noticed you are the member with the sea spray paint job, hows everything going with it.

Hurricane Wilma, and a little impared driving incident messed up my first paint job. So I took my Mustang back and asked them if they would honor the life time gurantee they gave me on the first paint job, they just laughed at me. Anyway State Farm insurance gave me some money and I kicked in some extra for a new paint job. I never did post pictures of the new paint and flames, I'll do that soon. Since this is my every day driving around car I've sustained some minor dings and scrathes and Steve and Liz are pissed about that. I'm buying a beater next week and will put the Mustang in the garage. Do you listen to 105.9 in Miami? Seaspary did the rock and roll car that the station is giving away. I remeber when that Impala was a rusted out P.O.S. sitting in their yard. They worked on that for over a year, it was cool to watch the progress as the car was being resurected. I'm sorry to say that Steve and Liz are selling the business and moving out of South Florida. They are not getting out of the business all together, they just want to get away from the rat race. Checkout their website at www.seasprayautbody.com. There's a picture of my stang on their first page. I saw your Mustang when they were working on it, did everything go they way you wanted with them?
