It started off really gradual then got worse and worse which made me think that it was a loose bolt or something but i jacked it up and checked and there was nothing loose. I had someone start it and rev it a little while i was under it and it sounded like it was comming from inside one of the flowmasters. Normally makes the most noise at around 2k rpms. Gonna take it to a muffler shop but just wondering if anyone had any ideas what it could be.

Ah yes the Rustmasters. My old flows rusted from the inside on the outside they were fine. The other thing may be that yours cats are busted and the material is inside your muffs.

How old are the mufflers? If you take it to a shop and flows are rusted you will need a replacment which I suggest someting stainless steel unless you are not going to keep your stang forever. The muffler shop may not have the muffler you want so you have to plan to give them a muffler to weld in. If you dont want to risk it then you could cut the muffler from the outlet side, unbolt from h or xpipe and take a look inside to see what it is. That way the very most is a weld job that you will be paying. You can drive without muffler only it will be very loud and annoying so plan on getting a new one welded real quick after you saw it off.

On mine one of the deflectors on both mufflers rusted off and caused it to rattle. Let me know what you find, Im curious to know what it could be. Also triple check to make sure its inside the muffler and not the muffler hitting any part of the car. You may need a light and mirror to see all sides of the muffler
