Flywheel??
Hey fellow hobbyist.
Did alot of research and just got a Exedy clutch for my 2000 Mustang GT. Want a flywheel preferably aluminum. Not much of a mechanical guy so does the stock flywheel is 6 bolt or 8 bolt?
Your input would help alot.
thanks

well... it's gunna suck for you cuz you got the 2000 model year. Somehow in 2000 some 8-bolt flywheels got stuffed into GT's which otherwise came with 6 bolt. I've seen it on a handful of 2000 year cars so far... all while doing clutch jobs. And that always came as a surprise to the owner who usually then had to wait 4 days for his new 8bolt flywheel to come in.
You're gunna have to bite the bullet and find out when you pull the trans. Ain't that a bastard.

99-00 cars Were all supposed to come with 8 bolts. Its the Windsor engine. Mine was 8 bolts.
If you want an aluminum flywheel, get a Fidanza on Ebay. If you find them at the right time, you can get a brand new one for about 285 shipped. And why do you want an Exedy clutch, if you dont mind me asking. They are way expensive, and you could probably buy 2 spec stage 3's for the cost last time I looked. Just wondering.

Excedy is a good brand and will hold up good. As for Fidanza.....JUNK every car i've herd that has a Fidanza flywheel....takes it out and sells it since they dont come balanced. I'de look into a different flywheel like a SPEC billet aluminum.

As FRPP puts it: look at the 8th digit of your vin. If it has a W, you have a Romeo engine w/ 6 bolts. If it is a X, then you have the Windsor w/ 8. However, I have an 03 w/ an X but it's a Romeo engine (I guess it only works for when Windsor engines were available).
As for your flywheel, unless you are making tons of power, you want to stick with something a little bit heavier since your car will accelerate a bit better and be more resistant to stalling.

you can get an 03 cobra nodular iron for like 40 bucks (I did). They're 8 bolt and OEM so all the balancing issues are gone, and they're really inexpensive.
Bassman, you rock dude. Killer info.

or he knew exactly... I'm always wary of too good a deal falling in my lap. Not that I don't jump right on them most times but sometimes you get burned. No matter what, that's a pretty good price.

why resurface when the cobra unit is new and costs only 50 bucks? Now if you're GT flywheel is 6 bolt, then you can buy a new one from dd (link above) for less than it costs to run around and get your old one resurfaced so it's kind of a point of diminishing returns issue.
