Wheel wobble when breaking.

Yep.

When i brake, my steering wheel has a tendancy to wobble. Thought it might have been some of the roads being uneven or grooved a bit. But it happens on 100% flat surfaces too.

Any thoughts on this? it ONLY happens when braking.

could be a slightly bent rotor maybe?

MattJ 08-01-2006 09:22 PM

warped rotors. time for a resurface. how many miles on the car? might need brakes.

Badfish 08-01-2006 10:29 PM

mine does it too...are you sure matty?

MattJ 08-01-2006 10:34 PM

Yes, its warped rotors. Youll need to have them resurfaced. Any place that does brakes can do it, or if you know someone who has machine shop access, it takes 5 minutes per rotor.

Lances03SVT 08-02-2006 03:47 AM

Yep what he said lol

Did you just say matty?...

And yes as matt stated ya'll have warped rotors...I had the same problem a last year. Bought new rotors and brake pads..problem solved...

MOTT 08-02-2006 09:42 AM

Don't resurface them, just get new ones. I never do that, always buy new ones. They're not that expensive, and you have it all apart anyway.

03gtmustang 08-02-2006 10:06 AM

I had that problem. Got my wheels balanced and it went away.

MOTT 08-02-2006 10:29 AM

Balancing might have worked for you, but he said it only happens when he brakes, so one must surmise that it's the rotors.

03gtmustang 08-02-2006 11:57 AM

I agree, I didnt read the thread. Figure Id throw that out there anyway.

Saleen S330 08-02-2006 12:48 PM

well since they can be resurfaced and still be within specs(probably about 2-3 times), and after resurfacing them they are like brand new. where i live it's 5 bucks per rotor to turn them and new rotors are like 30-40 apiece??right??....resurface them unless you plan on upgrading your brakes

Jack The Ripper 08-02-2006 01:30 PM

Damn, i only have 22,103 on the odometer. Is it normal for this to happen at this mileage????

Saleen S330 08-02-2006 01:32 PM

If you hit your brakes hard and constantly like a mofo it will.

MOTT 08-03-2006 09:48 AM

I just have too much money, I guess. I also tried out some ceramic brake pads, I'll let you know how they last. They were right about one thing, no brake dust.

PureStang 08-03-2006 10:08 AM

how about the sqeaking when breaking?

MOTT 08-03-2006 10:48 AM

I have yet to notice that. Is that suppose to be one of the problems with ceramic brakes? I've had them on for about 4,000 miles now, still no squeak.

Ghostalker 08-03-2006 12:14 PM

Yuppers... warped rotors... go find yourself a shop with a brake lathe and have them resurfaced... just another thing i can get done free thanks to my dad's clients... :beerchug:
It can happen over time, or due to high speed braking... or if you live up north, getting on the brakes early in the morning when they are <32*F or you know -10*F happens too... I live on a large hill, and the first thing I do in the morning is ride my brakes down the hill in the freezing weather, rapidly heating cold metal. No good for brakes.

does anyone know if there are fitment problems with the 17x9 bullits and the mach1 brake conversion kit?

There will be NO issues. My brother has 17x9 bullitts up front and has no issues with his bullitt brake kit. Clearance is fine. He actually just upgraded the rotors two weeks ago to power slot rotors! they look awesome!

no way, now most car companies make throw away rotors, one and done. most times they are with in .015 of discard brand new and can never be turned. its not like it was 5 maybe 10 years ago when you could turn rotors 2-3 times. manufactorer's use a thinner rotor to save on weight, plus they use steel from over sea's which has a real quality issue. I have to mic rotors and break this bad news almost everyday to people with cars 02-03 and newer. sometimes i have dip a few years older, like a ford taurus 99+ , no matter what i cant turn 'em, the things come .010 off discard brand new. its either you keep what you have or buy new ones. o and btw, never buy the cheaper rotors if you can avoid it, those pieces of crap come from china land. just pop the extra money and get the premium rotors, at my store its raybestos, and those things are made in the USA with good quality steel with a 5 yr warranty against warpage.

Ghostalker 08-04-2006 07:43 AM

cassette, what kind(brand) of brake lathe do you use? Just curious as my father is in the business... He installs and services all parts for Hunter Parts and Service, such as alignment machines, wheel balances, etc.

03DSG 08-04-2006 04:54 PM

ill have to check, i just got home from work. so ill wait till sunday to check out the brand.
