Unhappy New Clutch

This is a subject I haven't seen talked about all that much, (or maybe I just missed a lot or threads). My stock clutch is starting to go I think, won't really lock up well until the pedal is ALL the way out, (used to be about 75% out and it was locked) and on slow starts on hills (even small ones) it chugs a lil. So I think I need to start looking for a new clutch soon and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good choice.

The car is only haveing bolt ons for now, then suspension work, then someday a motor rebuild that will come with a 6 spd as well, so I won't need anything too radical right now.

I've glanced at a couple in the past. I noticed a 11" clutch upgrade to the 99-01 Cobra clutch pretty cheap. Or I could go for a King Cobra clutch, but I heard they kind of work more like an ON/OFF switch than a clutch. Then there are a bunch of aftermarket ones I could consider, thats why I need suggestions. Thanks.

BTW car has 50K on the clock, had 23K on it when I bought it and learned to drive stick on it.

King cobra are damn near stock. Centerforce, Spec, RAM, Zoom, etc.. all have nice clutches. Some complaints about Spec but all the others have very solid reputations. I'd get a centerforce. You'll like the low pedal effort and they are very strong grippers under load.

I have the King Cobra and I like it...good pedal feel and grips well too. It will cause the pdeal to feel a bit heavier than stock, but I like it that way.

YOu also need to think to the future like how much power do you want to make. Cause rebuying a clutch cause you baought one not suited for higher hp that got smoked would suck.

Me i just bought a SPEC stage 2 for my nitrous feed 2v. I will let you know in a few days how it is.

When i did my 11" upgrade I had such a hard time getting the tranny back in that I ended up cutting off the 2 little "ears" off the bell housing just to get more clearance. Then it finally went in. Pretty happy after all done. We'll see if I can't break that sucker after I put the blower in!

my clutch did the same. On mine all it was is the clutch cable going bad. I bought an adjustable cable kit and it fix the problem.

clutch cable is something to consider, it is ten years old now.

then again, the clutch is ten years old....

might try the adjustable clutch cable first though
