two big installs coming up

my income tax moneys coming in about 2 weeks and im both xcited and dreading the two new mods ima b doing to the stang

cams (vt stage 2) with new valve springs

and LT headers (flowtechs)

anyone have any advice or special tools i should buy before hand...

FritoBandito 02-22-2006 12:34 PM

A case of beer and a bottle of Aleve. Personally, I wouldn't trust myself doing the cam swap but your prolly a better mechanic than me. Good luck with all of it tho. Are you dropping the K-member for the header install? Search for csledds pics of her install, it makes my eyes hurt.

Icefreezen 02-22-2006 12:37 PM

Give me a bottle of Nitrous any day

If I wasn't a puss about nitrous, I'd go that route.

Good choice on the Flowtechs should be a nice sound...I assume your also doing the the flowtech h pipe as well?

bikerjoe 02-22-2006 01:00 PM

no just trading my xpipe for a shorty xpipe....

roushrider81 02-22-2006 01:01 PM

which CC Plates???

n/m i though i was in new topic lol

StangMan04 02-22-2006 01:02 PM

LT's are a bitch plain and simple. But we didnt drop the k-member either. My next mods will either be the 4:10s i bought, or vt stage 2 blower cams, then saving for the 1.7KB :)

roushrider81 02-22-2006 01:08 PM

what the hell is that K thing??

Lunati 02-22-2006 01:10 PM

yes L/T's are a pain in the arse...just drop the k-member and if u have acess to a lift, make use of it. dont rush things cuz u dont wanna have a leak. good luck bro.

There easy to do just time consuming. Thats why they're a bitch. U need to have patience for them.

stanger00 02-22-2006 01:38 PM

you will need some special tools for the cams. you will need something to degree them, and you will probably be better off buying new cam gears since the ones on the stock cams are pressed into place. go to modular depot or whatever othe mustang forum and do a search for cam installs. you should gather some good info there.

roushrider81 02-22-2006 01:49 PM

how long does it take to put headers in about 8-10 hours?

Here is a stock K-member compared to a PA Racing tubular K-member.

ok????????

MattJ 02-22-2006 09:52 PM

Took me and my mechanic 7 hours from pulling in to pulling out. we also took our time.

caballo 02-23-2006 04:20 AM

AFM Cam removal tool and Steeda cam timing wheel...

csledd 02-23-2006 05:33 AM

You shouldn't need new cam gears.. you only want to replace them if your stock ones are pressed on, and I believe they stopped using those in 01, since your car looks like a DSG it's either an 03 or 04 so I don't think you'll have a problem there.

As far as the AFM cam removal tool.. I don't think I'm even going to try to use this when I do mine, I've heard a lot of good and bad and I think I might as well just go the other route, it's not suppose to take a whole lot longer than using the tool. You do want to get something like this though..
http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/otc7928.html for your valvesprings

The best advice if doing either the cam install or LT install is allow yourself plenty of time to do it and take your time.. no need to get in a race over it. I've heard that installing the cams will be easier than the LT's lol.

Anyways.. good luck with the installs.. oh and good luck getting some VT Stage 2 N/A cams right now (I'm assuming you're going with the NA's). VT is changing their core supplier and they were suppose to hear something back from them by the end of the month, but they said they haven't. They sent cams to them a little over 2 weeks ago. I'm also waiting for them to come into stock :)

SpinMedia 02-23-2006 08:24 AM

Yo alex if you need help installing them hit me up =]

bikerjoe 02-23-2006 08:24 AM

thanx guys ...

im prolly gonna do one install in a weekend and the next install the next weekend

i have to wait about two weekes anyyways so i hope theyll have them by t=hen

what other cams could i buy thatll be close to the specs of the vt stage 2???

madmatt 02-23-2006 08:43 AM

If you want VT's, wait for VT's. I wouldnt put another cam in my car other than Tim's cams from MPH. Just be patient. VT's are worth the wait.

bikerjoe 02-23-2006 11:27 AM

ill wait i guess

my goal would be to be atleast in the 285-295 ranger with my other bolt ons and a great tune

roushrider81 02-23-2006 11:32 AM

so where did you order all your stuff from MT? are the headers on back order?
