Default Best way to start in a race.

Hey guys I was wondering if ya'll could give me step by step insructions for the fastest and most effective way to start during a drag race. I have heard put it in neutral rev pop clutch and shift to first but please someone give me detailed instructions for the best way to start on a drag.

huh?

Put it in first with the clutch in, rev to 2500 or so and slip the clutch just a little and try not to spin too much.

"I have heard put it in neutral rev pop clutch and shift to first"

Just make sure you have it in 1st before you pop the clutch, but yeah..

So basically just rev up and let off the clutch, meshing the throttle further as the clutch is all the way released. Depending on your power and setup, it will vary on how much more rev and throttle you can give before you have traction problems. I'm no expert though I've never been to strip, I just know from my own experience.

Launching a car I think is the most important part of a drag race. Something that should be practiced. I practice in front of my house (I live way out in the sticks!) on a level stretch of highway. What I do is hold the rpm's at approx. 3000, and when I launch I release the clutch quickly, but not all the way. There is a fine line between spinning the tires and bogging the engine. You need to practice to find that line on your car. You want some clutch slippage to keep the engine rpm's at or above 3000 withought spinning the tires.

It helps to release the clutch to the point just before it starts to move the car with the brakes off. This way as soon as you are ready to take off you are ready to take off.

I hope you dont mean a neutral drop in an automatic, because thats a great way to break some stuff in your tranny...

The best rpm to luanch on street tires at seems to be about 3k i pulled my best 60' on street tires at this rpm and so have my freinds and other people i have talked to at my local track. so i would say 3k slip it out of the hole feeding more throttle as you let the clucth father out.
