exhaust install video

Hey everyone, I made a video of my exhaust installation... me and my dad did it in our tiny garage over a period of 2 1/2 days (wouldn't have taken so long if we had dropped the k-member to begin with). If you have any questions/comments post em up! :D

yeah, thats sounds good. Nice car

Damn, I would LOVE to install headers, xpipe, and catbackk all at once bc I'm sure you felt a dramatic difference in performance. Was it a pretty big difference? Did the headers come with instructions on how to install? Oh and I have some questions...

what exactly is a k-member? What do you mean you had to "drop" it? And for the headers...how long was the install from start to finish(Minus the trip to autozone)?

Mikes04stang 05-07-2005 12:00 PM

sounds pretty damn good man

the k-member is the suspension basically.. whenever you drop it you unbolt it and lower it to the ground, we kept ours right underneath.

http://www.csledd.com/ellie/exhaust/k-member.jpg

the part where the wheels attach to, the big gray bar, caster and camber, springs... all part of it. The headers did come with instructions.. but they said nothing of dropping the k-member. We decided to do that on our own and it made the install a lot easier. It probably took us about 2 to 2 1/2 days to do the whole install. We started late the first night and we started by removing the h-pipe and getting to the stock manifolds (had to removed steering and starter). the next morning we started and tried mounting the driver side header.. tried for a couple of hours (LOTS OF CUSSING!). My dad had to go paint a car for a friend so that day ended short. The next day we started late again but started by dropping the k-member out.. the headers when on that night.. we put everything back up for those and then we started mounting the x-pipe and cat-back. the instructions steeda sent were completely outdated and WRONG! they had the mufflers on each side switched and based on the diagram there was no way it would mount up properly so that also set us back. after figuring that out we were very tired that night and had everything up but not securely clampled, we saved that for the next day and then it was finished.

as for power gains... the first night i drove it i could definately tell there was a sound difference of course.. and i remember noticing right off that there was a lot of low end power missing. it wasn't until I tried a burnout in the car.. when the exhaust was stock i would gain traction back when i shifted to 2nd gear.. when i tried it with the new exhaust i never gained traction in 2nd. i few days later i took a friend for a ride.. probably from about 10mph he told me to get on it so i did... i noticed when i hit about 4k the traction control kicked in.. so i turned it off and tried it again.. when we hit 4k that time i ended up sideways. it was a bit colder that day though so im sure that contributed greatly to that.. but there's definately a huge power gain. and i get so many compliments on the sound of it... i honestly didn't think i would either, this town hates most mustangs it seems, but ill be hanging out with a bunch of car people who don't know me and they'll be like "Do you own that silver mustang?!" I'll have to reply.. "i own the dark shadow gray one if that's the one you're talking about :D" and they'll say how they were driving behind me and it sounds awesome.. or "that's the way a mustang should sound". before i had the exhaust not many cars really wanted to race me. ive had a lot more try to play with me.. including vettes. I am definately glad that i did this... a lot of people told me not too that it wasn't worth it, i completely think they're wrong. so if you plan to do it ill offer all the help i can

i didn't mean to make this so long btw

dude to tell u the truth i had no idea my car would be so loud i just installed the bbk long tube off road h pipe and slp loudmouth and damn its loud but so beautiful when i picked up the car after i had them installed i felt as if i was driving a whole new car but trust me its not that bad and another thing why do people seem to think the x pipe is better but in every test the h pipe gave more power and plus its alot louder than the x pipe

how is the volume inside the car with the loudmouth. I ditched my flowmasters because the drone was killing me. the mac dumps are sooo much quieter in the car and about the same volume from the outside. I;ve been looking at the SLP cat back, but no one around here has it and I do not want all the drone like the flowmasters had. DO you have the actual SLP muffler or the SLP resonator?

the h pipe gave more power gains down low.. this is true, but the x-pipes show more power gains up top than the h.

That was a very cool video, loved the music. Good Job and sounds sweet.

dannyb785 05-08-2005 07:59 AM

the slp's drone at interstate speeds. I take the interstate every day to college and at 75mph(with stock rear end) it is exactly on 2000 rpm and with these mufflers, 2k is right when there is a sound change so it drones pretty bad so I did an experiment...

while going 75, i shifted into 4th and it rose to about 3k and I drove it like that for about a mile and strangely enough it is a LOT quieter and easier to hear radio, people in the car, etc. But my question is...realistically how much quicker does that eat up gas? If its barely any, i'd do that for sure most of the time, but I know 5th gear is made for mileage so i dunno.

awsome video man, and that sounds nice.
thanks

w01stang 05-08-2005 03:19 PM

good video girl.. hey do you have the coolest dad or what.....

MineralGT 05-08-2005 03:28 PM

I was looking into getting that Loudmouth exhaust but don't have the money right now for the X-pipe...How hard is it to install the exhaust first...then the x-pipe in a month or so?

w01stang 05-08-2005 03:34 PM

The cat -back isn't to hard took about 1.5 hours.

MineralGT 05-08-2005 03:35 PM

With the catback SLP system is welding nessessary or is it bolt-on?

dannyb785 05-08-2005 03:46 PM

its all completely bolt-on. welding isnt necessary, and I really cant think of any advantages it has to straight bolt on. bc if it starts rusting...youre screwed..

2000 STEEDA 05-08-2005 06:31 PM

Man, that video is just sick. The car sounds really wicked. I'm going to make a video of my exhaust here pretty soon.

csledd 05-08-2005 06:45 PM

thanks everyone :)

rebelyell 05-08-2005 10:34 PM

that is wicked fresh. ( my 13 yr old son said that). but no doubt that sounds too good. I will be looking into getting some new exhaust's very soon because I have to have that sound. Maybe not the headers yet but at least that mean ass growl.:headbang:

Lunati 05-10-2005 08:28 PM

that sounds so nice. i cant wait till i get mine sounding like that :icon_thum

question about that exhaust

would that exhaust work on a 3.8 or only for the 4.6. when i watched taht i wanted the exhaust so bad. its awesome.

well, you'd have to go a slightly different route, the headers are designed for the 4.6 setup and I don't think SLP has a set of headers that will fit a 3.8, I could be wrong though. You'd have to look into what to do after that, as far as using a Y pipe or X pipe and doing dual exhaust. The main thing you would have to worry about is that backpressure issues, because with this setup you take off A LOT of restriction and lose a lot of backpressure which hurts your low end badly. So that could probably be a big issue with a v6.

MattJ 05-15-2005 11:53 AM

Thats a sweet video! Exhaust sounds great too...

4Wildlife 05-15-2005 03:18 PM

thanks for your help.
