Barret 50 cal sniper rifle.
Saw this on the show "future weapons" on discovery a while back. 50 calibur sniper rifle that can fire 10 shots and be reloaded in a total of 10 seconds.
They are using these in Iraw and Afghanistan, they have literally cut people in two a mile and a half away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSOUWtd-mec you get to see them shoot through a ****in manhole cover and other goodies in this clip. enjoy! |
My girlfriend's dad is in the Air Force, he has one at the house in Hawaii. Showed it to me when I was there a couple of years ago. It's rediculous....

The DE's aren't new. Neither are the Barret's. That particular version is but Barret has been making 50 cals for a long time for the military. The previous version was the M82A1A but now they've got an M82A2A in testing that you can fire off of your shoulder in the standing position.

Who in the hell would want to stand up and fire on of those beasts....ouch

And you can own one, if you're a civilian, just need a Class 3 firearm's license, and about 15,000$ |

Stop saying clips guys..
mags..MAGS....MAGS!!! Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine. :) And jack, the M82A1 is not new: The Barrett Firearms Company was founded by Ronnie Barrett for the single purpose of building semi-automatic rifles chambered for the hugely powerful .50 BMG ammunition, originally developed for and used in Browning M2 machine guns. Barrett began his work in the early 1980s and the first working rifles were available in 1982, hence the designation M82. Barrett continued to develop his rifle through the 1980s, and developed the improved M82A1 rifle by 1986. The first real success was the purchase of about 100 M82A1 rifles by the Swedish Army in 1989. Major success followed in 1990, when the US Military purchased significant numbers of the M82A1 during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Kuwait and Iraq. About 125 rifles were initially bought by the US Marine Corps, and orders from US Army and Air Force soon followed. The M82A1 is known by the US Military as the SASR — "Special Applications Scoped Rifle", and it was and still is used as an anti-matériel weapon and EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) tool. The long effective range, over 1500 m with a record shot of 2500 m, along with high energy and availability of highly effective ammunition such as API and Raufoss Mk 211, allows for effective operations against targets like radar cabins, trucks, parked aircraft and so on To add to that, the Marine in the video was wearing woodland camo, which was replaced by MARPAT (MARine PATtern) in the early 2000's, so that video is probably footage from the late 90's. |

Wow thats funny, cause i saw a new episode of that show futureweapons on discovery channel about this rifle. i know barret is not a newcomer to the game, but this weapon according to the show is a new 50 calibur sniper rifle that hasnt been impremented untill afghanistan. funny thing is the soldiers and trainers they had discussing the weapon seem to agree with me. you sure yer not looking at an older version? |
The weapon in the vid is the M82A1A SASR, correct?

For example, the Marines and Army troopers use the M16A2. The actual gun is the M16 and the A2 means it has been updated twice. |
