questions

wat do u think i should do to my 98 v6 stang, i have cold air intake and fr500 rims with bfg g force tires already. But im thinkin of gettin some exhaust but i am not sure wat.....i heard mac but i dont know wat stuff

Randy Stinchcomb 01-09-2006 06:24 AM

I would check wth the guys right here at M/T they always have killer deals on exhaust. as far as what I would choose, dont ask me as too many people have different opinions, some like 'em loud and some like 'em quit :) me I like 'em about in the middle ;)

Mitchs98v6 01-09-2006 02:07 PM

ya me 2 i dont like em loud but i want to get it to sound as close as i can to a GT stang

spike_africa 01-09-2006 04:44 PM

while you will never sound like a Gt above 3k becuase of the way the v6 breaths, You can make it idle like a v8 with a h-pipe and chammbered mufflers like flowmaster and my favorites mac it will have a nice deep tone. but everyone likes something different so you need ot go and hear as many sound clips as you can.

what about an Underdrive Pulley System what does that do and is it hard to install? And if i get lowering springs do i have to get new shocks too?

MjCorn23 01-11-2006 01:42 AM

With underdrive pulleys you will see a little better acceleration but that is about it. You gain maybe 7 HP, as far as springs go I would get new shocks and struts too.

stang00 01-11-2006 11:18 AM

mac catback will make ur car sound better then socok and some modded v8's for sure

MjCorn23 01-12-2006 01:01 AM

I am not trying to flame you by any means but the V6 will never sound like a V8 without doing a cam swap or something of that nature.

Idling yes you can sound close to a v8 but after 3k its still going to sound like a v6 its just the way the motor is.

Asking a v6 to sound like a v8 is like asking a 4 banger to sound like a 6 you cant do it.

but you can get damn close, and if you geta power adder or some engine work done, (cam) it can sound REALLY nice, Mine sounds good...it's not rice, and at the same time you can tell it's American...

MjCorn23 01-12-2006 09:15 AM

You can get good mufflers that sound nice on a Six and it will not sound like Rice, I would never call a Six rice being that I am a Six driver myself. You just have to pick your products.

Spin Tech has some of the nicest mufflers around for V6's...they sound pretty damn good on V8's also...I've sat my car next to a V6 with Flowmasters put on them, and mine sounds SOOO much better...I've said it once, and I'll say it again, Spin Tech Mufflers sound DAMN good on 6's!...there are a bunch of clips here...Mine should be up there too, or in my sig...

Exhaust Clips

MAC 98 2.5'' Cat Back System

Your exhaust is 3 basic parts, Headers (come outa the engine...), a Mid pipe (which can be either an H or X pipe), and a Cat-back (called this because it is from your Catalitic Converters back (think of them as exhaust cleaner/noise reducers)...

An H-pipe is basically a Pipe that connects from the headers back, and is in the shape of an H with the middle part connecting the two pipes...an X pipe is the same thing only in an X shape...

My exhaust is a Cat-Back system which connects to the factory mid pipe (which in a V6 is a Y pipe [ called "y" because the two header pipes come into one pipe and then out one side] the link to my exhaust page is www.spintechmufflers.com, when you look on the site they have a Dual Side Exit Exhaust set up, which is what I have...I'd stay way from Mac or Flowmaster only because eventually you will want a better sound and will want to change them anyways. Unless you want a cheap set up, in that case they are your normal options. My exhaust set up is about 200 bucks more then average...

mustangvsix 01-12-2006 08:54 PM

I have this mac catback system and it sounds very nice and throaty, and just goes off the y pipe. http://www.brenspeed.com/mustang_v6/mufflers.html
the one with the 2.5" piping and 3" tips

MjCorn23 01-13-2006 12:44 AM

I have heard the spintechs and I will assure you that if you get them they are well worth the money. I have a magnaflow and personally I love but I think that spintech has the best of them all.
