true dual a no-go?
 

hey all,

I called a local performance shop around my area (Atlanta) called "Dugan Racing" ( don't know if anyone knows of them or not). They have a huge sign outside their place in that reads "Mustang Specialists" on a major highway in Atlanta. I know they do a lot of mustang work...so the comment the guy on the phone told me was interesting....

I asked him if they could install an exhuast system (true dual) for my 2005 v6. He told me that dual systems are not made for the 05 v6, and that they probably would not be made..."ever," and that this was evident by the fact that there is only one notch for one exhaust pipe in the rear bumper.

This sounded really shady to me, as true duals ARE made for older-than-05 v6's! He said, yes it is true that they are made for the older ones, but people actually LOSE power when they put them on...most of the time the consumer just wants a better sound.

he went into this talk of back-pressure, and how he'd be happy to give me the business, but i would end up losing power (unless I would be driving 130 mph all the time). Then he said just to go with new gears and a tune.

Is this all legit? I thought dual exhaust helped out.

I dont really know what I'm talking about so you probably shouldn't listen to me but yea if you don't have enough back pressure that's not good. From what I've heard H pipes sound better (matter of opinion) but X pipes give more power. If you run true duals and dont cross over (H or X) I've heard you can lose power.

Again, that's just what I've heard.

The 99-04's V6's dont have a dual cutout either, but thats besides the point.

I havnt seen how the underside of the 05/06's go as far as hanger placement and so forth. One would assume they have the same chassis, but Ford might use half as many hangers on the V6 as the GT, since the piping is different. This might hinder the creation of a true dual system for the 05/06 V6's due to the way the chassis is designed, but once again, I havnt had a detailed look underneath the car to even see if it is possible or not.

As far as backpressure loss, that im not too sure on. I would want to see dyno proof of a V6 with a dual exhaust modification to say yes or no to his claim. It is possible, that there is a loss of power, but I cant say 100% that hes right.

99-04 v6's do NOT lose power w/ dual exhaust. I have a magazine that I could scan right now(and will if u want) that showed dyno charts of gains w/ the duals on 99-04 v6's. and the new v6's are just more efficient version of the 99-04, so i see NO reaosn why u could ever LOSE power, unless the structuring just flat out didnt allow for the extra piping

would you mind scanning those articles if it's not too much trouble? I'd just like to get a straight-forward proven answer.
