Put a 2011 3.7 V6 into a 2001 model?? Possible?
This is all completely hypothetical and i dont plan on doing this......anytime soon, but me and friend of mine, who loves mustangs almost as much as I do were talking about the power that the 2011 V6s put out. I mentioned to him that after rebuilding my Mustang and the fact that its kind of mine and my Dad's project care that I'd never be able to part with it, even though i love the new design/power output. My friend then said that maybe i could enough money to put one of the new engines into my car if i save enough. Now, mind you i still have a year left in college so my budget is needless to say, sparse. But I am curious to know if it is at all possible to have one of the new Duratec 3.7 thats in the 2011's swapped into a 2001? Anyone have any good input?

seeing as the 3.7 is a base model with fairly big power they are going to get in wrecks pretty often so in a year or two I don't think finding the motor will be to hard but switching all the electrical over is going to be a bitch.

Electronic assisted power steering, that's enough to make me not want to do it.
|
I mean, it's a good thought, but for the money you could do a much easier 5.0 swap, and just carb it if you don't wanna fool with electrical. However you could be one of the few who did a 3.7 swap.

As for swapping in a bigger v8, I had given that a lot of thought as well. but the thought having a motor that puts out just over 300hp and still gets great millage is a really nice thought, haha. the electronic steering was something i was wondering about, since obviously mine doesn't have it and the new ones do. But since thats with the 2011 car itself, the engine could be used with a normal power steering couldn't it?

Yea, that's another that seemed cool to me. How many over people who have a 99-04 can say they have a lot more power and yet have waaaay better mpg as well? :D
I'd do a V8 swap... but if ur determined to do the 3.7, hell, I say go for it... |
i would be wanting the new 5.0 tons more power and pretty decent gas mileage compared to the old 5.0 i would think. but either one would still be awesome to show off.
