BBK Shorty Headers
 

I saw on american muscle that it said the shorty headers were not legal in emission restrictive states. I live in Austin and I was wondering if I would be able to pass emissions if I was to put the headers on? I am also planning on running true duals but for now I want to know if I would pass if I was to switch my stock headers with some shorty headers.

Years ago, Florida had emissions testing, which consisted of a visual inspection of the catalytic converters and a sniffer exhaust test. Therefor headers would have been legal in Florida. Hope this helps.

We have that here to, but along with sound testing. My car failed all 3, so I had to registered it at my other house where it's not required.
California has Smog testing like 4 times a year, it's horriable there.

You don't have to smog your car 4 times a year, wtf. You smog it once every other year or someshit..

And BBK Shorties are not going to affect the emissions. Texas does not require a stamp like a CARB stamp, so there shouldn't be an issue.

In California, the most smog nazi state, I've passed emissions with a damn 4.3 stroker, a cam, JBA Headers, nitrous hooked up, and no tune in the car, dumping fuel...

Last time I checked, Austin wasn't anywhere near as bad as California.

Honestly, I'd spend a little more money for better quality and buy a set of JBAs regardless.

Your thread awhile sounded like you had to Smog Test every year. When looking at a few cars in California I was told you have to do it multiple times a year.
You got mad because you smogged test your car in 2008 and then you had to do it again in 2009.
Sorry for the misunderstanding and being wrong, just went by with what I hear from people who lived there and who did live there.

I would just save the money and get long tube headers, almost sounds like shorty's are pointless. Then again I may be wrong on that too.

Yea, I had to smog back to back years because I got popped for modified emissions in 08, so in 09 they had me smog again.

But as far as multiple times a year, no. I live in the county with the worst smog in California, beating out Los Angeles, and they are probably the most strict on us here, and we don't have to smog that often.

As far as longtubes vs shorties goes, it depends on what you want. I bought 3 sets of shorties because my stocks cracked, the headmans cracked, the bbks cracked, and then I got the JBAs.

Well what's the difference between LongTubes and Shorties?
I heard that Long Tubes give more power and deeper sound.
Shorties I'm not sure.

Uhh long tubes on a v6 will do next to nothing unless you're built and pushing alot of nitrous or boost from a supercharger..

They'll do something for sound, but IMO, it still sounds like shit.

Shorties do nothing, they just replace the stock manifolds the car already has.

Pretty much getting shorties would be if you rea;lly need new headers?
I have a '95 GT (H pipe/No cats, about to remove mufflers or remove the baffles), not a V6 so that's understandable, my headers are fine. I was thinking of getting some because I was told it's a good aftermarket investment. After some researching Long Tubes are the way to go, shorties are pointless.

Yea. Shorties are good if you want replacements and nothing loud or anything.

Long tubes would give you some sort of power increase with the v8, I believe.

Would the sound be deeper and louder?
I'm glad I didn't buy shorties, sounds like a waste of money unless you're in need because of cracked ones or whatever problem there is.
