Quick Question
So I have a cracked manifold, and decided to order some bbk shorty headers to replace them. I called a shop today, and he said that if he put them on, he'd need to change the whole exhaust all the way back to get it to fit.
So my question is: Going with aftermarket shorty headers, can't it just bolt onto where the stock headers were, without having to get a new midpipe and all that? My exhaust is completely stock by the way. Sorry for such a noob question. |
go to a different shop...they are just trying to fuck you. shorty headers should not be any longer/shorter than the stock manifolds. you may need a midpipe but not the entire system like you said they said.

They bolt right up.

Shorty headers are a direct replacement for the stock headers. You don't need a new mid pipe.

How much did the shop quote you for the install?
I installed my long tubes with my dad. It's not a hard job by any means, just a time consuming one. I spread the work out over 2 days. Just take your time and have fun with it. Heres a link to a walkthrough. It's for long tubes, but the same applies to shorty's. Give it a look to see if it's something you wanna do yourself. http://3.8mustang.com/wiki/How_To_In...g_Tube_Headers |
Bro, google it. ^^

V6 mustangs generally come with shortys stock. They don't even appear like manifolds at all...
But yeah, they are equal length. I would do the job yourself, shortys arent bad,, but longtubes are troublesome. So save yourself some money and have some fun doing it yourself and learning more about your car. |
Take a weekend and do the work yourself. Its way more fun to mod your own car!
