New to Forum - Considering 2000 Conv.

My Mother bought a 2000 V6 convertible 5 speed, white with tan interior new when she was 72. Now approaching 82 she is not able to drive much if any. She wants to sell it to get the money since she really can't drive anymore.

It has low miles- a tad over 42K. Never been wreaked, no major mechanical problems, A few dings and scratches. The worse part is the interior. She smokes and the interior is stinky. The drivers seat is not in good shape, seems like the foam has broken down. There are cig burns in both seats.

I'm thinking of buying it and selling my 2003 Jaguar V-8 S-Type. Not convinced I'm ready to part my my Jag. But the Mustang would be fun to drive and fix up since there are so many mods one can make to it. The Jag is super expensive to maintain. First order of business for the mustang would be new carpet and upholstery redone (thinking leather).

Just wondering what input, cautions, comments folks might have. I'd be more excited if the Mustang was a v8. I think $3800 - 4,000 is a fair price. Again, any thoughts there?

Thanks to everyone in advance.

Rather than get a GT I would just stay with my V8 Jag.

I was thinking the 2000 Convertible would be fun to fix up/ upgrade. Since the seats are terrible I could buy better ones like Corbeau racing seats, new carper, get the back seat recovered in black to match the Cordeau seats. New shifter, new wheels and brakes, etc.

And then later on when you realize that it's a V6 and will never really make awesome power you'll sell it and all of that will be wasted.

So don't waste your time.

It depends what you want out of your mustang. Do you want a project car that will eventually turn peoples heads as you drive down the street? Or do you want something that can smoke that camaro next to you at the red light? If your an "image" kind of person get the V6, if you want power the GT is the obvious choice. I myself own a convertible and my advice to you is if you buy a convertible make sure your someone who will ride with the top down on nice days. Only then will you be truly satisfied with your ride. ;)

Would you like a spot of tea with that? Perhaps some crumpets?

If you have a GT your going to want a Cobra.

Its never ending. My car can do 12.40's, and I am still sick of it.

Sounds like it would be a downgrade to me... If you're wanting a project mustang then keep your Jag and buy an older non-pi GT. You could pick up a semi-decent out 96-98 GT for $1500-2.5k, put $2-3k in it and you would have a fast/fun GT.

like said before it really depends on what you are looking for. if you just want a fun car that looks good the v6 can be for you. if you are really into speed and performance you need to sell the jag and get a gt. v6's can be fun to toy with if you just want a fun around town car that you won't want to race v8's with. plus its a convertible. so if you love convertibles get it. i have a 88 sitting in my driveway that i would love to get running just for those really nice days to ride around with the top down.

I thought the same thing when i got mine. I spent 3 grand on that car and well lets just say still very slow and not that cool.

I'd keep the jag!
