Lowering Concerns...
 

So I was thinking of finally dropping the car with some H&R Supersport springs and some good shocks/struts. My concern is that if it was dropped 1.75 inches or therebouts will I be scraping everything in my path and have to do that slammed honda civic/speedbump dance that will take me 15 mins? Any advice or experience please.

I have the eibach sportline springs and the eibach pro damper shock and struts and i love them high speed bumps suck but on the road they are great

You'll be alright. Just get used to not pulling up all the way to the parking block/sidewalk in parking spots, or else your chin spoiler will hate you.

Your cats will scrape on big speed bumps, but who cares. Fuck em anyway.

This is the lowest point on my car, as you can see the cats got fucked up but that's because I had shitty shocks in the back and whenever the front would clear a speed bump the rest of the car would just plop down ontop of it. But that doesn't happen anymore with the bilstein shocks.

Damn dude well if I didn't live in CA I'd have two less cats for sure but anyhow...PCola do you have bilsteins all around? I was lookin' at the eibach prodampers cuz it looked to be the best for the buck but if I had the means I'd def go bilstein. All my mindless researching has pulled for H&R springs tho. I just want a good drop combo for my 18' rims.

Ground clearance isn't that bad with that much of a drop but you will have to be more careful around speed bumps, thems the breaks. I would recommend either Tokico Illumina's or Bilsteins. I prefer Bilsteins and use them. They're not very expensive and worth every penny. You only buy bilsteins once.

Dropping your car will give it a great look and i swear i feel like i have a whole lot more control!!!

Since dropping mine i have gotten a couple little scratches here and there but nothing obvious

If you ask me anything more then 1.5" is ridiculous on a daily driver when it comes to the 94-04 cars. I keep it real and lets be serious you will scrape a shit ton with 1.75" and hell even the 1.5" will scrape too.

Mine is the same. I can safely fit my hand underneath the front tire and be rubbing the fenderwell on the opposite side of my hand.

Handles like a beast though with everything else installed. Now I just need some D-Specs.

i agree with dustin its just to much trouble to worry about with anything lower than a 1.5 drop my i just changed my buddys springs the other day from his 2 1/4 inch drop to his new eibachs with only a 1.5 inch drop and it is so much nicer now, still very agressive stance just dont have to worry so much about scraping everything everywhere you go it got to be a real pain in the ass

For a daily driven car yes, but if you ever see some of the time attack corvettes and lotus' they sit less than an inch and a half from the ground. It does help, but for something that hits potholes and speedbumps no way in hell.

Well I def don't want to scrape everything and be super cautious everywhere. PCola, I really dig the look of your drop what springs do you have? That look is EXACTLY what I'm going for, but I'd rather sit a little higher if you have any scraping issues. also, what size rims and tires do you have?

I want to lower my 07 V6 just to get rid of that nasty wheel gap. I put 18x9's and 18x10's on mine and they totally set of the car but the wheel gap just kills it how you can see all of the trim inside the wheel well. I was looking at these from American Muscle.

H&R Super sports with no isos in front and 1 iso in back. 17" wheels. Leave all of the iso's in if you want it to be higher.

It's been awhile I know so sorry for bringing up the topic and beating the dead horse. Was going to lower the car but the fuel pump went bad and so did the clutch, so....Anyhow I'm in the market again and was thinking on a step-by-step process for suspension. I don't have the money for springs, shocks/struts, and CC plates, so what could I do first and still be content for the time being? It's no appearance change but I was thinking CC plates first to set up for springs later, then shocks/struts when I get more money. Let me know what you guys think...

If your doing the work yourself then my advice would be to do the shock/struts at the same time as the springs. It may take a few hours to do the springs, and if you also want to do the shocks/struts at the same time it adds like another hour at the most.

the hardest part of putting CC plates on or changing springs or changing struts is pulling the top nut off the strut. That being the case, it's really best if you do all 3 at once.

Springs and struts need to be done at the same time so you don't fuck up the handling before it gets better. Plates can be done by themselves but really, just keep buying parts till you amass enough to do a first rate job. Springs, plates, struts, sway bar, endlinks and probably a bumpsteer kit all at once would be a night and day difference and since all the bits are related you could install them all at once in the same time it takes to pop in a new set of springs.

Don't get in a hurry and think you need to put some part, any part, on the car. It's not the way to do this. Put the right parts on all at once. If it takes a year to save up the parts, well that's the nature of a project.

Are you getting the drop primarily for performance or appearance?

If appearance: I would recommned the UPR/Eibach Prokit, Tokico Blues and MM CC plates.
I offered $150 for these http://cgi.ebay.com/79-04-V6-MUSTANG...ts_Accessories a while back and they accepted. Billet Depot is the Ebay department for UPR. Eibach makes the springs for UPR so it is a quality name brand set of springs. Tokico blues are rated perfectly for the prokit and only cost around $300 for the shocks and struts. If you are really trying to do it on a budget the stock shocks and struts will suffice for the time being with the prokit since it doesn't have a very high spring rate, I have been on the prokit for about 2 years on stock shocks/struts. You will probably still need CC plates.

If performance: save up and do the H&R's, Bilsteins and CC plates all at once.

Thanks all, I guess I'll just save up and try to tackle it all at once. If I do the suspension I'd rather it be done right with good parts, so probly H&Rs and bilsteins. Just throwing this out there because iv done this in a couple other vehicles not a mustang yet but for a drop could u simple just cut just a coil off of them and use that as a cheap drop or is it not advised? thanks for the help

The cats not gonna mess up with the bottom anyways. I guess nothing to worry about.
