Back Axle Help
 

Hey everyone,

I have a 2002 Convertible V6 3.8L Mustang. One of my goals for increasing performance is to be able to do a nice burnout. I've heard that there is something wrong with the stock axle that doesn't allow two wheel burnouts. I believe this is my problem because only the right wheel spins. First of all will switching the axle to one that will allow me to do burnouts work? Is there any alternatives besides switching the axle? Also can someone link me to where I can buy the specific axle that I need.

your going to need to get a http://www.americanmuscle.com/ford-28spline-75-lsd.html, and then gears of your choice to make your car accelerate quicker. this will put power down to both wheels and will get rid of the one wheel peel.

Okay so no need for a whole new axel? Sweet thanks man I appreciate it. What gears do you suggest? I am new to performance upgrades so my knowledge is limited.

no need for a new axle unless you plan on putting supercharger or something putting out a lot of HP, is your car auto or manual? auto i would get 4.10s, and manual 3.73s. more guys on here no a lot more then myself so they may jump in and help you out. american muscle in my opinion has great products that's where I get everything for my car, im actually about to get gears and a tlok for my car.

might just (probably) be cheaper to find a wrecked 99-04 GT and pull the rear end out of it. It's a simple swap and you'll gain a beefier rear end and posi.

i agree with red. I saw ebay had a 2003 GT 8.8 with 3.73's already in it for like 375.00+ shipping. and it bolts right in. versus having to pay someone to pop open the diff and replace gears and stuff, and then you prolly end up switching to an 8.8 later on anyway

Yeah as I said I am not very knowledgeable or skilled with mechanics aspects of cars. How would I do the swap if I did find a wrecked GT?

get a buddy, put the car on jack stands, take of the wheels, start unbolting shit, make sure the springs dont unload on ur face and then bolt the new one in, swap over brakes if needed, drink a beer. someone chime in if i missed anything

I called the junk yards in the area and I found a back axle assembly that would work but it would cost $700. The parts for my specific job is listed on American Muscle for $325. I'll keep looking around for the back of a 02-04 gt that I could salvage but around here our Junkyards are known for being overpriced. Maybe someone will post something on craigslist that would work.

tell the junk yard to put the 8.8 just about 8.8 inches up his ass. thats way overpriced imo check the classified on svtp and other sites for better offers. craigslist and ebay too

haha I got it down to $500 but I'm not paying more than $400 for this. I will call every junkyard in AZ if I have to.

500$ is pretty good for a 8.8 with every still intact. i paid 400$ for an empty 8.8

Hey I recently spoke so someone about how to do burnouts. They said installing a "line lock kit" would do the trick. Will this work with the differential that I currently have? (Stock on non-gt mustang)
