What's next for my 08 v6 pony?
Right now I have a 2008 V6 automatic pony with a BBK cold air intake system, and a Flowmaster American Thunder Single Axle-Back Exhaust. By the time December rolls around, I will have a BBK Throttle body installed in my car, and a Steeda 4.0L intake throttle body spacer...and I will also have one of them SCT SF3 / XCal3 Power Flash Mustang Tuner w/ Free Custom Tunes as well. Exterior parts are easy, but when it comes to performance parts for my v6 pony, I don't know what to get next for it.
Need some suggestions or advice for some performance mods for my car. What else could I get to increase torque and horsepower for my car? Don't know what else to get. Thanks. |
First off, welcome :)
Second, how much $ are you willing to spend or whats your budget? |
thank you :]
wouldn't mind having a list of possible mods going from cheapest to most expensive. no budget really, just all about time and money here if that makes sense. |
Well theres a good amount of lists, between bolt ons to forced induction/nitro. Ill assume you wanna stick to bolt ons. Note most of these prices are average and or a guess :P
Under Drive Pulleys - 250 Lowering Springs -250 Shocks/struts - 300-500 4.10/3.73 Gear swap- 500 Differential - 300 Umm thats a few, im sure other people know some more, some reason atm my mind is blank..Any questions about em just ask. Next id say 4.10s with a differential, from what ive heard is by far the best gain for your car, although id get your car tuned after you get the gears installed. |
Yeah, plan on sticking with bolt ons for now...do you know what kind of work that would involve with the 4.10s and the differential? I've never really got into much of that. Just something that always seemed like I would never fool with, maybe that's because I don't know much on that subject area. But if it helps with the performance for my v6, then I'm interested :P
What about new headers?, that worth fooling with atm? |
First off, you can probably scratch the TB spacer and UDPs they will give you almost nothing for the money you pay. If you do think a TB spacer will help have a machine shop make you one lol. So you'll save some money there.
The best thing to do in my opinion is the 4:10/Diff swap. The 4:10s are not "hard" to install it just takes time to do. It's all just physical work, nothing super technical that you couldn't find a guide for online. Headers would be okay, but they wouldn't really help you much now they would be something that you'd need later on if you went past just minor bolt-ons. |
If you don't know shit about cars I would not recommend trying to install your own gears. A throttle body and spacer will do nothing for you. Unless you were running boost of some sort then a bigger throttle body might be worth it, otherwise save your money its not going to hardly do shit.
I don't know what your plans are or what kind of money you have to spend, but a tuner is the next mod for sure. You should of gotten a tuner/CAI combo as that's where the power per dollar is best spent, minus nitrous of course. Under drive pulleys do add a good amount of power, not sure what he is talking about. |

Plus, if he ever goes with a blower, or anything non-N/A then they'll have to come off. |
Yea for the 4.10s i wouldnt wanna do it unless you really know what your doing. I havent gotten them installed on my car but ive read allot about it, and know that it can be difficult at times and messups can be pricey :( Although if you do it yourself it can be around 300$ cheaper, if you do it correctly. Ive heard long tube headers are better although i dunno jack shit about exhaust, never was my thing. Agreed on the TB spacer, ive heard from many people its a waste. Also since your car is an auto id go to a larger output spark plug. They can range from 50-90$ and its simple, fun, and pretty noticable for throttle response and startup.
EDIT: Also because of the October sale you might wanna check AM and see the discounts and etc. because some of em are pretty good deals. Also you should take some more pics of your car, looks nice and clean just need some rims ;) |
Alright I gottcha GT guys, and thanks for the input diesel, appreciate it. I'll definitely work on more pics of my car, and as far as rims, I know I need some, seems like one appearance mod that keeps getting pushed back. Looking at the Black 2005+ Deep Dish Bullitt Wheels (18x9). Also like the GT500 wheels, and GT4 wheels don't look bad either.

Nice, i like those and black FR500s.
