Next Mod?

Okay for my next mod i kinda wanna do some suspension work. Ill go short and to the point. Whats the best bang for my buck i can get for suspension and something that i could probably do at home? I have all the shops tools most likely nessecary.

3.8LMustang 10-19-2009 09:07 PM

just get the full works and put all of it at once :D...

shocks/struts/springs to lower ur car, control arms, caster camber plates, front/rear sway bar, strut tower brace

spike_africa 10-20-2009 04:47 AM

Best bang for your buck would be springs and a used rear sway bar as the v6's don't have them from the factory.

Yea cause everyone has a grand or so to just throw at it

Lower the car and get a set of caster/camber plates to adjust.

Deathdiesel 10-20-2009 07:05 PM

K so springs for sure. So CC plates or sway bars? Also can i do springs at home?

springs are too easy with the right tools, swapped out springs in my driveway more times than I can count. give yourself an afternoon to do it, and its easier with a buddy around to help. I'd recommend H&R springs, everybody seems to like them, and they have a nice, low stance, but ride nice. Pick up the GT sway bars from a local pick 'n pull for cheap, those can be done in the driveway also.

Deathdiesel 10-21-2009 12:38 PM

Ill have to find a pick-n-pull lol. Around here not sure how many there are or how much theyd charge.

NewMustangMan 10-21-2009 12:48 PM

wont be much whatever they charge....

Cause you can get new ones for like 120 bucks.

Deathdiesel 10-21-2009 12:58 PM

Yea, hopefully i can find one thats not all beaten to shit, clean it up and paint it and make it good as new. :P

Btw anyone recomend any good springs? I was looking for around a 1" drop, any more and ill scrape constantly.
Also leme know what you think of my newest little add, blue wire covers(not new wires), along with blue ignition wires soon too. Horrible pics i know, its cause the camera.

yeah i dont think that will be an issue

wildride02gt 10-21-2009 06:23 PM

c'mon now! ur in central TX. ur surrounded by salvage yards. I lived in the Killeen/Nolanville area for 10 yrs. until recently. My buddies and I made regular trips to salvage yards. There is one in Briggs(Harold's, I believe), Temple, Belton, Waco. also, I believe I read somewhere that ppl were pulling intake manifolds off of windstars and bolting them to v6 stangs for good, cheap gains. I'll see if I can get that info again.
As for the drop, I run 2" drop on my GT and have had no problems. Most kits do 1"-1.5" drop. again, I'd recommend H & R springs, everybody seems to love them.

Deathdiesel 10-21-2009 07:03 PM

Yea i figured if H & R has a 1" drop ill buy em. And my intake is already a CAI bought online. Unless the windstars or whatever had a large increase over my intake i wouldnt bother. The area i live at sadly enough i scrape without any lowering springs if i go certain areas, so 2" is out of the question. So i guess im definatley gunna get springs, and the say bar(hopefully its only like 50$), would i need any hardware for the sway bar? Or should it bolt on just like it was made for the car? If so than i can probly squeeze in one more mod. As long as i can do them all by myself/with a buddy.

wildride02gt 10-21-2009 07:15 PM

I would grab everything for the sway bars off a GT, end to end.
I'm not talking about your CAI, talking about your Intake Manifold, check following--

Deathdiesel 10-21-2009 07:24 PM

Eh, if im gunna do an intake swap like that im gunna do it proper, get one from SuperSix or something. Nice suggestion to someone who has experience and patience though. :P

Windstar intakes ARE doing it right.

It also looks good when it's done:

SnTBakosFinest 10-21-2009 07:56 PM

windstar intakes are the only upper intake (aside from a sheet metal intake) that i know of that you can swap.

The power difference is greatly noticed, also works very well with nitrous or another form of boost. As far as I know, supersix doesn't sell them, VAP auto sells the full kit.

I'll be buying one when I get ready to do a direct port setup..

Deathdiesel 10-21-2009 09:31 PM

Oooh, a kit i can dig now. I thought it was a intake off a van or some bs :P again shows how much i know. Thats not too shabby, for what 15lbs of torque. But thats gotta wait till after gears/suspension though it wont be very far off for how nice it looks. :P Btw would that be very hard to do?

wildride02gt 10-21-2009 10:04 PM

ok, both are Ford OEM intakes off of the windstar. the first link was a guy who figured it out himself.
VAP made a kit using the windstar intake. they do alot of v6 perf. stuff.
.....and yes, it is an awfully pretty set-up.

spike_africa 10-22-2009 06:21 AM

The sway bar just bolts to the lower control arms. The V6 has the same lower control arms from the factory as the GT's. So you have the 4 bolt holes (2 on each lower control arm) and the sway bar just bolts to each lower control arm. So be sure to get the bolts that Hold the sway bar on.

Also I am pretty sure the 99-04 GT's have a thicker sway bar then older models so that is the one you want. Its a cheap simple bolt on that will drastically change the handling of your car.

K sweet, ill check into that and hopefully find a wrecked GT that i can strip apart. That intake is very nice lookin...can it handle much pressure from a S/C or nitrous?

wildride02gt 10-22-2009 02:07 PM

if you had used the links and read a little bit, boost is the major reason ppl are switching to this intake. not only is it better designed, but it seems to perform very well under boost.

The same as any 96-2010GT handles it.

stangkid1993 10-22-2009 04:33 PM

i really like those wire covers! It makes the engine look better IMO, where did you get them and how much?

SnTBakosFinest 10-22-2009 06:34 PM

Think the colored wire covers is a little too much...I'd go black but thats just me.

As far as the windstar handling boost, I think its handled something like 25lbs on Js car..

I'm not sure if Matt has a windstar (or if they even work on single ports) but I know hes thrown 30 psi at his motor..

As far as nitrous use goes.. anything over 150 shot through a air intake going through the throttlebody and then hitting the upper/lower intakes is a bad idea..

I know Justin over at VMP had an issue with a large nitrous shot and he believes it was due to a regular wet shot and the small throttle body not being able to handle it as well as Tom Y at supersix..said he was kinda pushing it...

So for nitrous, there is no difference, unless you're going to do a direct port on the upper :)

I got em from autozone, like 15$ total. Its crazy cheap and all ya do is wrap em over the old wires. Ill be honest, idk where engines get pressure put on them from S/C or nitro so i just asked anyways. I dont plan on putting anything over a 100shot ever on my car, so im not too worried about it.

Deathdiesel 10-23-2009 05:30 PM

Yaaaaaaaay! Typical day...Went to put sparkplugs on my car and out of the 6 i ordered, i got 4 of them as the wrong type. Awesome. So now my car is sitting in my garage with 2 plugs from NGK and rest are stock. Super fun. Now i gotta run into town at 8:00 in the morning to pick up the right ones. Anyone else here have nothing but complications on mods?

Mine broke and I've been driving around for about half a year without one. Then I just recently got one not to long ago, but I can't see any difference what so ever.

Now I have no clue if I have the thicker one or not.
