i finally bought a mustang. its a V6.(first car cant complain). ive already put money into the looks (stripes, rims, mach 1 chin spoiler, billit accesories for the interior, dual exhaust, sequential tailights.) now ive got around 600$ to play with on getting some more horses any suggestions? :D

Lazerred6 09-15-2009 01:36 PM

4.10 gears and a t-lok

or nitrous

camarokiller 09-15-2009 01:39 PM

i think ill pass on the nitrous but how much power gain will i be seeing and around how much would that cost? (kindve new to this sorta thing)

Lazerred6 09-15-2009 01:54 PM

Rear end gears and a t-lok won't add any power but they will make you accelerate faster the gears work as a torque multipler and the t-lok sends power to both wheels so you don't have 1 wheel burnouts

another good idea would be to get a flash tuner which would be neccesary if you got the gears

nitrous if used correctly is very safe you could run a 75 shot (75hp) on your car without really doing harm lots of people do it and it is hands down the most bang you can get for your buck

nitrous can be had for around 600

for gears t-lock and tune you are looking at closer to 1000

camarokiller 09-15-2009 01:56 PM

what about a cold air intake? would that give more power or is it a waste of money?

No power, and it will cost 500-600 bucks

almost worthless on a v6

camarokiller 09-15-2009 01:58 PM

why is that?

the power gain from a CAI on our motors is only about 3hp, even though they'll sell it to you as though it adds about 15. The only way i would recommend a CAI is if you were doing it for looks or if you used a tuner with it, that way you will be able to see more hp gains

camarokiller 09-15-2009 02:07 PM

ok so besides a t lok and new gears what would be another smart investment for some more kick?

camarokiller 09-15-2009 02:08 PM

and a flash tuner does what exactly?( sorry im new at this)

SnTBakosFinest 09-15-2009 02:11 PM

If you're pretty new to the car stuff, just stay away from nitrous until you've researched..
I'd rather not be the guy that told some dude to buy a nitrous kit and hook it up..then the guy does it inocorrectly and his shit blows up due to an open solenoid or something..

CAI is worthless, just spend $50 for a K&N filter
Gears/Tlok is nice, but if you don't know how to install them, then its going to cost you some more $$ for the install.
With gears/tlok you need a $400 tuner to correct the speedo, you'll get power from the tuner..

Gears/Tlok/Master bearing kit will run you atleast 600, install, well, probably another 400+ dollars.

So theres 1400 after gears/tlok/bearing kit/tuner

My best recommendation: save that money, learn what works and doesn't work as far as adding power goes, and then start modifying the engine.

the only things that will give you a decent kick without rebuilding the motor is forced induction or nitrious. The latter being the much cheaper route

a flash tuner allows you to modify the car's ecu so that you can tune your car to have cleaner shifts, run higher octane gas, etc

camarokiller 09-15-2009 02:20 PM

ok thanks that pretty helpfull sntbakosfinest and with the k&n filter itll be just as good as buying a CAI? and with the gears/bearings/and t loks is it a must to tune it?

yes and you don't have to but i'm sure everyone will recommend you to

Lazerred6 09-15-2009 02:28 PM

k&n air filter and remove the silencer it just blocks air flow

"You don't have to" well if you want to drive around knowing how fast you're going you do...

Yes a K&N filter is going to do the same thing an air intake will..

camarokiller 09-15-2009 06:16 PM

thanks alot i appreciate all of your guys help. i think ill just stick to a K&N filter and save some money then wait off until i do the gears and t lok and the tuner

Haha yeah, technically you don't have to. But if you like using your speedometer, you'll want to get a tuner.

exactly. You can just save some money and guess how fast you're going. I'm sure the nice officer will tell you how much you were doing lol

spike_africa 09-16-2009 07:09 AM

The basic fact is that the v6 cars don't respond to bolt on's very much at all. If you want some cheap ones that will do some good then an under drive pulley set is a great idea. And they do add some solid power. While CAI do very little, they are so cheap ($35 on ebay) and I would just do it for the hell of it. But really if you want to go faster with this small motor you need either nitrous,turbo/supercharger, or heavy internal engine mods, like more compression and stroking the motor etc...

08mustang_gt 09-16-2009 10:37 AM

Basically just save your money.....keep to looks. Or get nitrous/turbo.

camarokiller 09-16-2009 01:43 PM

yea im sure the officer would understand a 17 year cruising around town doing 50 in a 35 speed zone haha.and what exactly does an underdrive pully do? and how much are we talking?

Lazerred6 09-16-2009 01:52 PM

UDPs are good for 5-10 and what they do is free up some horsepower that is used to run the AC and other stuff. they don't totally eliminate the accesories it just gives them less power

so your AC or heat wouldn't quite blow as hard

camarokiller 09-16-2009 01:53 PM

thanks for the info dude.

lmao this just made my night. And as much as i hate to admit it.. turns out us 6's pretty much have no choice but to break down and buy the tuner.

No negative effects, maybe the SLIGHTEST bit louder, and for removing it you just pull out the filter, and take off the funnel looking thing its really simple. I wish i could describe in detail but its so easy i forgot what it looked like in the begining :)

spike_africa 10-08-2009 04:47 PM

On the airbox where the air filter is at. There is a rubber piece that connects to it and goes into the fender. This simply rips right off and lets more air in the motor and makes it a bit louder too.
