Swaping to v8. PCM question

I just got a 2000 v6. Gonna throw in a navi engine with sulivan intake. I'm just having a problem with pcm and wireing harness. My friend who is a certified machanic for ford said the pcm is basicly the same. What I wanna know is if I keep my v6 pcm what wireing harness do I use? Can I use the navi harness or am I better off going with different pcm? Biggest question... is a pcm hard to change out? All the electrical is basicly the same correct whether its v6 or 8. thanks.

You can't use the v6 computer for a number of reasons. Like the fact that the v6 uses a coil pack and the Navi uses COP (on the later model ones with the better ignition), and many other little things. You need the Navi ecu and the engine wiring harness for it.

you can also use just about any GT underhood and tranny harness with the 5.4 4v and a suitable transmission. You can in theory use your v6 gauge cluster and ECU but I'd use a GT gauge cluster and ECU with a GT underhood harness and a GT tranny harness. You should be on easy street with that setup. Use sensors from a GT, not from the NAVI engine. In fact... why have you not popped into the 5.4 sticky in the 4.6 tech section? 5.4 questions should be taken there. We can add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.

Ive looked through it before. So many pages and I thought it was focusing 2v engines anyways. On the ecu it matters if its from an automatic or standard tranny right? My set up im going with an auto. I don't know if that complicates anything though.

Well, you can change that in the tune, and from the sound of it, you wont really be able to run a stock tune anyway so I wouldnt worry too much about it. But if you're gonna pick up the harnesses, it might be easier to get it all from one car.

now then, into the big thread with the rest of us. There are 4v guys in there.

EDIT: Auto? It'll be a good time beefing it up to take the tq. Have you decided on which auto to use? At this point you may want to think about a complete aftermarket tranny. http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ct_Code=434020 would be a good example.

It does matter you need an auto ECU for that auto tranny. If you were going with a stick it wouldn't matter if it was a manual or auto tranny ecu because a tuner could turn off the auto tranny parts so no check engine lights come on.
