Flowmasters on a V6. Opinions?

So I've wanted to get a new exhaust system ever since I got the car, I just never had the money to.

I thought I would get these dual Flowmasters, but after reading the sticky, am I right to assume getting these would be virtually meaningless in terms of performance, power, and sound?

I really don't want to spend $400+ on a new exhaust kit thats not going to make my car sound much better.

Furthermore, are there any alternative exhaust kits that I can purchase to make my car perform, sound, and look better?

Thanks for your help.

I have flowmasters with an h-pipe and no cats and it sounds mean. I have friends at the exhaust shop so it was $200

Flowmaster mufflers suck for flow and just make the car sound loud, they have zero tone to them and sound like absolute shit at high rpms. Don't waste your money. Get this>>

http://www.macperformance.com/store/...Product_ID=316

They are the absolute best sounding mufflers on a v6. BTW i know from experience.

I am quite happy with mine. I had dynomax on my 01 V6 with same setup and I like the flowmasters better.

Do you have any numbers from either of the setups? Flowmasters are aweful. I had Mac Ceramic coated longtubes, a mac- offroad h-pipe, and mac catback on my v6. Everyone at the track thought it was a v8 until they looked under the hood.

+1. I have the Mac setup and love it. Best sounding setup for the 6ers.

Nice, thats the exact set up I plan to have. Was it raspy at all in the higher rpms?

Demetri, best advice I can give you is look around before you buy anything. You will find you will change your mind multiple times and finally settle on something you may not have even considered before. Listen to different setups and see what you like best. Waiting will pay off even though you may not too lol.

Must See 02-17-2009 09:23 PM

why not get some SpinTechs? They dont get highpitched what so ever and they have a nice deep tone to them and they wont break the bank. I have a link to the video in my sig. Check it out.

Dave04Mustang 02-17-2009 09:23 PM

wow... ok back on topic.. haha

I'm personally not a fan of flowmaster only because a ton of cars on the road have them so a lot sound the same. I prefer Mac

EDIT: and MustSee I hate that the bug is back in your sig hahaha

What bug? I think its a bug on your computer screen.....

LilMissLayla 02-17-2009 09:38 PM

I'm definitely not saying flowmasters are the best for a v6, just that I am happy with mine :)

Switch 02-17-2009 09:41 PM

I like the flowmasters on my six. It sounds like I drive an 03 cobra that had the supercharger stolen, two cylinders not firing, and 16 of the valves sealed shut.

Hey, i just cut my exhaust off and welded a flowmaster 40 in place. i love the sound, i get mistaken for a v8. I left my cats on n all that, overall i really love the sound around 3000rpms. and at 1500 its nice n deep.. I'd just get a shop to do that.

i sometimes get mistaken for a v6

krenogin 02-18-2009 06:56 AM

well captain obvious alot of the girls around here dont really know the difference. basically all they say was "my ex boyfriends car was a pussy!" and really it does sound good, especially paired with a cold air intake.. Ppl really do think its a v8. I really think my car has had something done to it becuz nobody elses sounds like mine. Ill do a vid one of these days.

Demetri X 02-18-2009 11:34 AM

So if I were to go with the Mac Performance exhaust, do I need to get a kit to convert it from thestock y-pipe system to a dual h-pipe system?

I followed the link, but that product is for the 99-04 models, and mine is a '98.

I'm guessing I would have to convert it to dual h-pipe or get something like this:

94-98 2.5" Cat Back for Short Tube Exhaust

Am I wrong?

01FR500 02-18-2009 12:13 PM

I had Flowmaster 40 series mufflers on my v6 and it sounded great. For a v6, it had a good tone, no drone. But the exhaust is the main reason I wanted a v8, I still remember the exact moment I decided "ok this is just not going to cut it, time for a v8."

I remember the exact moment I decided "ok, I just can't afford it, time for a v6"

Well I have the Flowmasters with the CAI and it sounds like a v8 as well. I get alot of GT comments on it.

Mseiter 02-18-2009 02:06 PM

3.8LMustang 02-18-2009 03:35 PM
