Upgrades for a 09 V6 Mustang?
 

Hi all,
First time signing up here and looking for some advice on upgrading the basics on my new 09 Mustang with a V6. I have checked out the obvious quick fixes with a cold air intake and throttle body upgrades as well as some body enhancements. A couple questions for you experienced guys and maybe some Stang gals.
First, cold air intake. I like the K&N air filter technology but are they that much better than a BBK that has a chrome inlet pipe and are $100 cheaper?
Also BBK makes the 70mm throttle body upgrade that looks good and is priced right.
And the throttle body spacer, do I need one if I get the new throttle body, and which one; the Steeda or the MMR, is one better than the other???
Hope I get some positve feedback on these questions as I am new to this and want to do it right the first time.

First off.....Welcome!!!

The BBK kit is one of the lower end C.A.I.s for the 05-09. But, it's only maybe 10hp difference from the higher end kits. The TB spacer is not really needed, it doesn't prove that much of a difference. For the V6 my first mods would be a tuner, gears, and the intake. Then you can work to things like the exhaust and throttle body.

The best first mods for 05+ mustangs v6 or v8 is a cold air intake and tuner combo. You get the most bang for your buck,minus nitrous of course, then any other mods will do. A fellow v6 05+ owner just got the CAI (cold air intake) and tuner combo from Justin at www.VMPtuning.com and he can tell you it was a worth while upgrade. Justin is one of the best tuners around and when it comes to v6 power he is the man for getting tunes.

On the v6 you can gain around 20 solid hp with just those two mods. If you swap the muffler out even for a stock GT one he usually has cars make 25 extra hp. So you get around 5 extra hp. He also has a package with a stock GT muffler too. I would just get a cheap axle back replacement to get more sound. Plus for the v6 an axle back is very very cheap.

BBK is not a 'low end intake'. My BBK intake is engineered very well and performs well. I've had one on my car for several thousand miles now and have been nothing but happy with it. It is incredibly easy to install and looks great under the hood. BBK knew what they were doing when they designed it, that's for sure.

No matter what brand of intake you get, the power you will make from it will ultimately come from a good tune. If you want a little more kick in your pants, get gears. You won't get any power from them, but you will feel like you did.

get rid of the idea of a throttle body as a near first mod. they won't do much at all if anything.

Read spikes post and make those options your first mods. after that gears/T-lock will wake that bad boy up like none other.

I just got a CAI and tuner from Justin at VMP. I got the C7L one so it was a little more expensive. Let me tell you it is well worth it. Car sounds great and performs even better. Its a great addition and you wont regret it!

BBK is lower end compared to the Saleen and others yes. It doesn't provide the same flow as other, more expensive kits do. Never said it sucked, it's just not super high-end, not that many people need it anyways.
