Problems with the Stang
Well wednesday night they finished up my stang. They put the exhaust system etc. But there was a problem...
(Jumping into thursday) So i went to the shop yesterday around 2pm. I was going to stop by to see if they finished it. Well i went n they were not there but i saw a pieace of paper on my window saying technical difficulties, i was like ohh nooo wat happened now. Throughout the day i was passing by the shop until i saw them there. They got to the shop around 6 sumthing. (I was there about 5 min b4 they got there and had the hood opened) So they came and told me that there was a big problem... I said ok wat is it? He went to crank it up and i saw that the pullies were turn very slow whenever he cranked it. It sounded like the battery was dead but it wasnt cuz he check it and it was reading full, so it wasnt the battery (I was thinking it was the starter or sumthing). Ok now getting into the big shit. He told me that the crank pulley wouldnt even turn if they tried to turn it. It was like it was locked up again but whenever they had the engine out, they turned the crank pulley freely like it was no problem but yet whenever its bolted on the trans the crank pulley was hard to turn but yet whenever he cranks it the pullies turn very slow and everytime he cranks it and it gets slower and slower everytime. They stayed up until 4 in the morning trying to get my stang ready so i could pick it up thursday and thats why they came late to the shop but not to worry he said he is going to figure the problem out asap so i could have my stang back. (my friend just told me right now that my trans input shaft may be wrapped....also a good reason to spun a bearin...) Just wanted to see wat yall think... |
did they make sure the clutch wasnt dragging? im pretty sure they did but that could be the only thing i could think of.
i only say that because you said everything spun freely when its on the engine stand but when its hooked up to rest of the drive train its hard to turn over. the only link between the tranny and motor is the clutch. also, just because a battery has good volts doesnt mean it has enough cranking amps to turn the motor over properly. |
cool thanx ya the mechanic told me that he is going to take down the trans again to see if he could find out the problem
|
any other ideas anyone?

ahh ok, ya about the clutch dragging... The mech that is working on my engine said "it seems that sumthing is dragging the motor to were it isnt starting" but he know its not the motor, he thinks it has to be sumthing else, just like you stated
wats weird is that whenever i tried to move the crank pulley it wouldnt budge but then went he cranked it, the pullies moved slowly |
sounds like you have a strong battery and strong starter. this also sounds like you already isolated your problem:
crank spins on engine stand...check battery and starter turn motor but real slow...check cant turn crank by hand when engine is installed... i would drop the tranny and see if the motor will crank that way...something could have broke with the initial start up. that would suck... but if it works than you know something is wrong with the transmission if its a AUTO...linkage could be out of adjustment or the clutch is engaged when it shouldnt be |
i'd just like to say, "why can't anything ever work out smoothly?"

man it has to be sticking. lift the car off the ground or summin so if it turns the crank it'll turn the wheels haha,, idk im a computer technician so i troubleshoot alot and that sounds like something that may work! haha
