ASP Underdrive Pulleys

Has anyone heard good things about these UPD's (http://www.stangsuspension.com/store...?idproduct=199). Or even better yet, does anyone have them and know if they are good or bad from experiance? They look just like Steeda's, but are they as good? Any advise is appreciated. Thanks!

i had an asp pulley on my car for as long as it was N/A. didn't have any problems with mine and gains good all around power. id say you will gain 5-7rwhp.

after that or before i would look into a J-mod for your auto. all i hear is it is a different car after that with an auto.

5-7rwhp...? sounds good to me! So I didn't know anything about J-mods until I read a little article about them just now. Can you give me a little explanation about what they are good for, and where the best place to get them from is? Thanks for the help!

You know of some cheaper kits for the 2004 V6?

spike_africa 01-14-2009 04:40 AM

Do a search on the j mod or "jerry mod" as I have and others have covered this before. Its a mod for the tranny.

don't know much about them other than it is like a shift kit for an auto and everyone raves about them on these tranny's.

ok, I did some research. It's cheap and seems like everyone likes it. Is it recommended to get a tranny cooler with this? What is the big deal about tranny coolers for the average user? I read that the j-mod will decrease the heat of the tranny by itself...

spike_africa 01-14-2009 05:57 PM

Depending on where you live if it gets over 60* you need a tranny cooler if you ask me. The number 1 killer of auto trannys is heat. When they get over 210* the fluid breaks down and things get bad for the tranny in a hurry.

The J-mod because it makes the tranny shift faster (a side benefit is they are firmer too) this does not let the bands in the tranny slip as much and that is one thing that creates heat. Also it lets more fluid flow to the bands so they hold more power. Its super cheap and a must do mod for auto cars, plus its very cheap to do.

I would add a tranny cooler to any auto car I own that I want to keep for any reasonable time frame.

Example, my dads brand new 08 Chevy Avalanche was running over 210-220* from the factory!!! (They have built in tranny temp gauge thank god) in fact the tranny died just 1 week after owning it. Because it over heated to much in the mountains in NC and there is no stock cooler from Chevy on these trucks. Once we got it back, with a new tranny, I installed a B&M cooler and even towing our trailer or boat it has not gone over 180* my father has told me. Even here in hot ass Florida summers (when we got it).

Done stealing your thread, sorry lol.

no no no, keep stealing, lol. You answer my questions above and beyond which is super helpful for me.
So, I am going to do the j-mod as soon as I can, whcih might not be till summer time because of certain reasons. Do you have any recommendations for a cheap, good tranny cooler?

spike_africa 01-15-2009 05:28 AM

I always recommend this B&M cooler as its big enough to really keep the tranny cool and comes with everything you need to install it on the car. Mounts, hoses, clamps, you name it and its there and ready to be installed. Very simple to install also.

If you have never bought from summitracing.com don't worry they are only one of the largest suppliers of aftermarket parts there is. I have spent alot of money there over the years. Good people and great tech department.

Redrum 01-15-2009 08:48 AM

if u need help just ask

JDank 01-15-2009 10:23 AM

awesome, great information, thanks for the help fellas. One more random question I have: How often do you guys recommend changing your fuel filter? I'm pretty sure my car has never had it changed before and it has 63,000 miles on it...

Dave04Mustang 01-15-2009 04:51 PM

I usually replace mine by what Ford recommends which is every 30,000. If you have gone 60,xxx on the stock one I would replace it

JDank 01-15-2009 08:24 PM

Great! that is just what I wanted to hear, cause I didn't know how often Ford recommended to change it. Thanks!

JDank 01-15-2009 08:27 PM

do our automatic Mustangs already come with a tranny cooler? just not as good as the aftermarket B&M one?

spike_africa 01-16-2009 06:14 AM

So the short answer is no and yes, you don't have a good cooler. You have the stock built into the radiator cooler like every other auto car.

NO auxiliary tranny cooler comes on any vehicle unless its a truck and has a towing package and even some of those do not have coolers on them.

makes sense to me. My radiator is actually dented up about an inch or two... looks like the previous owner may have ran over a big rock or something... :(
