Installed my CAI.
 

Well, I finally got my intake in from AM, and after the pain in the ass installation, I got it to work. I didnt really get that metal piece that covers the intake on right, but I screwed it into the side of the car where the stock intake went, and just left the two screws out of the bottom cause I was getting frustrated. It works though. Sounds pretty damn good, and my idle is so much smoother. As for the performance, throttle response is a little bit better.
All in all. I like it.

Did you follow the AM install video on youtube? I will post a link if you didn't there was a little trick to getting the plate on right. Plus did you gut the MAF sensor?

Yeah, I watched the vid. Except they made shit look so much easier. Jerk offs. And yeah I gutted the MAF also. I pretty much new all what I had to do, but I watched that vid to make sure, so Its all done right. It did, also, annoy me that they didnt use my year car for the install vid. I mean, you'd think that since they have the CAI for 94-98 models...they would have a 94-98 model install vid. Wasnt much of a difference though, so it wasnt really all that bad. Anyways, whats the trick?

I'd make sure all thats nice and clean.. I'm confused on what you may have left out or whatever. But make sure its all good and tight. An intakes something you dont want to have any problems out of. I'm always scared im gonna suck water up in my cars intake. Let alone dirt and grime,, I wish there was a way to make my car have the CAI sound without a CAI haha.

yeah, Im gonna go over it again later to make sure everythings good. I already did a test drive and everything seems to be doing fine.

yea man my CAI got me a ticket yesterday. pulled up beside another sixxer and floored it on the highway.. and u know how quick these sixes jump from 60-75.. soo 3 seconds later i seen blue lights... and i was like shit.. but ima get that ticket threw away. its friggin 175 dollars. lord i could get me a new chin spoiler and wheel spacers haha.

Heh. Yeah, Im trying to slow it down these days..Ive done had my license taken away already for too many points from speeding tickets. Just got it back about a week ago, haha.

Oh, when you gut the mass air you take the s***** filter screen. I had people say that it screws things up but I have not had a problem and have done this on every vehicle I have ever had. I had a guy one time say that it screws up the internal metering and does equate the air out equally which cause both a rich and a lean out condition depending on rpm and such. So I called C&L, SCT and both guys said that the screens only purpose is to filter out potential harmful deposits that get past the stock intake and filter system and that the other guy is full of crap. If you have a decent filter it doesn't matter.

It will actually help the idle - to take the screen out. The only thing that they did say was to make 100% sure that you get the inlet temp senor and the mass air positioned right. See attachement pic below.The inlet temp senor should be be positioned where when you hold the tube up you can see through the horseshoe part (I circled it in Red). As for the Mass air the electrical connection should be dead center on the top (Looking Down).

I got the $75 cai from AM and the screen didn't even seem like it woulda fit back in mine. Oh, and I also had problems with the big metal plate that is suppose to cover the fender whole, but eventually I even got the bottom two screwed in. =D

JDank, it depends on the year some did. Don't remember the year though. Mine didn't either.

how do you screw up a CAI? i mean seriously, if that gives u trouble then please dont try the pulleys or any other mods...

Uhm...I didnt screw it up, if you're talking to me. Just cant quite get those two screws into the bottom of that fucking plate. I figured Id just let it sit with one screw in it for now, cause I had to get ready for work shortly after I put it on.

If the part doesn't fit right, it would give anyone trouble. You have to screw in a plate that covers the fenderwell hole as well as keeps the tubing and air filter stable, and for me, the tubing was too long and had to be cut shorter to fit my car. He may of had a similar problem and didn't accomodate the difference, which in turn would make it very difficult to screw it in at all.

Thats pretty much it. Im gonna do some pushing and bashing on it tomorrow, and if that dont work, Ill just make my own damn plate out of some sheet metal or something.

whats the silencer, stephen? and NeedACobra, as long as you didnt have any left over blots and whatnot, i think your fine.

I think that was directed towards me for the long explan. The only reason I did it was because I was bored. Also because I remember what it was like being young and either not having a clue or not having someone to help out. Plus sometimes reading the directions doesn't clear it up and since the AM kit didn't come with instructions it would certainly leave questions for someone who is a just getting there feet wet.

JDank if you got the AM kit or one of the many other brands that listed there kits for the 99-03 mid year kit, you would have had a little fittement and alignment issues.

i got the same intake and i think the trick to the bottom screws on the plate is to take the two metal posts that go into the rubber gromets at the bottom and screw them in while the plate is off so u can hold on to them with some pliers while u tighten them down. then you just set the metal posts down into the rubber holes and screw the top one on.

that's the lazy CAI. and it does not sound or look as good, it is better than stock though:)

yea my firebird had a metal piped CAI.. same shit kid.

so.........u haven't had one "in the same setup you have right now". that's what i mean, your car might sound great right now but when i removed my K&N and put the cheap metal CAI it changed the tone to a lower tone. that was on a stock exhaust. yours might sound even better with one than you think. it might make a difference in your tone.

well fortunetly i dont waste money, i can hear that suction noise difference and it sounds great, and now that i got my offroad mid pipe i cant even hear that anymore, but ask any of the ppl who are around here a lot, most will say you wasted your money but then again ITS YOUR MONEY so go ahead and waste it. II bought my O/R for 90 bucks, would rather you see do that instead of a 190 dollar intake or more.

Well i only paid 45 for mine so I think it was money well spent! I looked at them when I first got my mustang and got the k&n filter instead. Ran across my cai on craigslist(it was brand new) and I couldn't pass it up. Now I am so glad I got it.

lol haha majorly gay, id love to smack the people who mad that spammer.. friggin pharmacy in mustangforums.. But the cheap CAI was messed up, i did bending on the MAF area and its easy where its aluminum. So bend it in shape!
