Taking off the paint...

ok, as yall seen on my thread called "official thread of my rebuild" i painted my CAI red. I was just going to ask is there any way that i could take off the paint without missing up the aluminum?

thanx in advance

paint thinner maybe

ya i was thinking about that but i dont know if it will mess up the aluminum...

Any paint remover should work, that with some polishing afterwards should make it look like new.

Lacquer thinner may work quicker.

Then just polish it right up with some rubbing compound.

Sand blasting or bead blasting.

Acetone maybe. Good thing about metal is you can just sand it and polish it again if needed.

what is the reason for removing paint? u just want the shiny chrome look(i know it is aluminum not chrome) or are you doing a different color? what did u use to paint it anyways.

venom-where are your updated pics of your project i have not seen them since ur car was in the shop getting the new hood. i have been waiting, did i miss them?

I'm pretty sure he's painting it black.

The alignment, ac recharge were done. New hood is on as well but now it will not start up lol. They are tring to see why it wont start up. They assure me its nothing big and think someone that was working on it left something unplugged. It took a bit longer since finding a hood that fit took much of the time. As soon as I get it back Ill post up some pics with new hood.

If you ended up using paint thinner or acetone/ethanol etc etc, you'll most likely have a coat of white powder (To various degree of severity) on the aluminum by the end of the day. It'll come off with some light polish though, so don't worry.
