K&N FIPK
I was wondering what you guys thought of it? From it's picture it doesn't really look like it mounts down into the wheel well. It is plastic but I don't know if I'm looking at it wrong but, to me it looks like it's pulling air fromt he engine compartment. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a CAI?

i had one in my 04 gt.
it was expencive. better off replacing the filter and taking off the snorkel. it did work fine though.... it was just pricey.. |
it does not mount in the fender.

i have a friend with this intake. It seems to be a nice CAIand no it doesn't mount in the wheel well; it is way too big to fit there anyways lol

Sounds like the better option is like Jack said, swap out the filter and maybe take off the snorkle.
From what I understand, a metal CAI is counter productive since the metal heats the air inside the intake. The K&N CAI for my car looks to be a overly expensive replacement when a cheaper one ma be able to do the same job. Is there a better one that I could put a K&N filter on? |

Ya buy a K&N drop in replacement air filter for your vehicle, and then when your replacing it, remove the silencer off the filter housing. It does the exact same thing as the cold air, but the tubes are not metal so they do not heat the air entering the engine. The effects: not many, but some horsepower gains, better gas mileage, and it makes the engine sound stronger and wayy better. Any other questions? just ask

I've hear mention of removing the silencer before. What exactly does that mean and how exactly do I go about doing it?

Now all you have to do is squeeze one side of it to release the tabs from the filter housing and abra kadabra its off, then you just ditch that piece and screw it back onto the fender and replace the air filter. Then you have a better sounding mustang. Its no big deal just get in there and get the job done. Alot easier than it sounds. |
Excellent directions Staley! And taking the snorkle off doesn't hurt anything? It doesn't have a negetive impact on some aspect?
I centianly wouldn't mind a muscle car actually sounding more like one. This sounds very simple since I am replacing the filter anyway. just a extra step. |
Nope it won't hurt the engine at all. The snorkel is just on there to bring in air directly from the fender, without it, it will still be drawing in air from that same area but it wont have to curve around in the snorkel, just go straight through the filter. You will love it.

Staley: I'll try that. Worst case is I get nervous and put the snorkle back on :)

What is there to be nervous about? It will still be doing the same thing, but the air won't have to travel as far, and it takes in a little bit more. Perfectly effective, just did it on my buddies sixer, kinda made me jealous for spending a bunch on my JLT system. But I've got the But I've got the RAI adapter, so it's all good.

I don't know anymore I was on the k&n filter thought too but I ran across a cai on craigslist and I got it since it was only 45 bucks. I got to tell u, I think it sounds and acts better than the k&n filter with no snorkal.

yes, when i first got my mustang i was looking around and saw everyone saying drop a K&N filter and remove the snorkal/silencer, so that's what i did. found the cai on craigslist cheap(the same as i paid for my K&N filter) so i bought it and i did notice an improvement once i put it on. i went from a K&N to a cai and noticed a slightly deeper tone when i give it gas and slight, very slight power improvement. wonder what it would be like going from cheap fram filter to a cai.

well i didnt notice much b/c i already had an intake before but before yeah there was a diffrence in sound and response.
the super 44's are the best great muffler for a six |
