It really does not cost alot to get the split port swap up and running. And if you have a super high mileage 232 then just find a low miles 99-04 v6 and do the whole motor swap. Its not very hard and total cost depending on how much you get the motor for can be as little as $550 once you get the motor, and all the odds and ends in.

well i hate to say it but i ran across a americanmuscle cold air intake on craigslist for 45 dollars and i went ahead and bought it. i thought it was worth a shot for that price. it was a brand new kit that had never been installed. don't know why it was never used but hell who cares! i removed the snorkal and have had a K&N filter in ever since i got the car about four months ago. i tell you what, i think it does make a small difference on the plus side. i can hear a slight difference in the stock exhaust and it does seem to have just a minute bit more pep to it. and it looks GOOD. so imo i think they ARE worth it just in the little time i have had it on. so since they are only 70 dollars or so brand new for the 94-98 v6, i think it is a good idea. very easy installation too, the only complaint i have is since it is such a cheap kit i think the MAF gasket on mine was not an exact match. i had to take it apart after i was finished because i noticed there was a gap where the gasket squeezed out and did not make a perfect seal. maybe i tightened it too much i don't know but when i put it back together i kinda tucked it in as i was tightening it down and it seems to be doing better now. here is a before and after. i do have plans for a split port down the road i am keeping my eyes open but i could not pass this up for the price.
