performance mods
We have a 2004 40th aniv 3.9 v6. So far we have true dual flowmaster 50 series, cold air intake, and a screamin deamon coil pack. Im wondering what else we could do to make it faster for less . Like as in not spending 4gs on a supercharger and not spraying it. ive yet to change the plugs and wires since we got the coil pack so beside that any one have any ideas?

i will say gears. what do u have auto or stick??
|
its a automatic i wanna stay with the stock gears thanx to gas being 3.20 a gallon i want programer for sure. how much would bigger mas air flow sensor and under drive pulleys help
|
cheap hp not gonna happen. Make your acceleration faster put in new gears (this won't increase hp though)
|
it alreayd leaves stock gts like its nothing its just to satisfy mu self not to beat anyone else i know pulleys help out and a programer helps out alot but in wondering if anyone knows of anything else. thanx to a thread i read on here a while back i found that screamin demon coil pack which helped alot so i was just wondering if anyon else knew any thing like that
|
the underdrive pulleys will help acceleration but i dont know how much hp u get. i have a underdrive pulley and water pulley i can feel the differents. a bigger mas air flow dont know i have it stock. but gears will help out.
|
well i know the stock mass air sensor allows up to 550 cfm and the stock sensor is 70mm with a 73 mm it allows 700cfm which thats alot mor air but then to compensate for that i would need to change the throttle boddy so really im just wonderin what the best upgrade for the least money

we have true duals 50 series cold air and coil pack. were not blowing them away 0-100 we got them by about 2-3 car lengts thats the new body style gts 96s gts it more like 5 lengths
|
Changing a MAF does not add hp unless the current one has already pegged its max voltage. So unless you have a blower installed, the stocker is more then adequate. A MAF does not let in more air....it measures air flow and is not a restrictor in your application. Having a bigger inlet is pointless unless the motor can use it. Blowers compress the air and force it into the intake in such a way that the MAF can no longer read that much air flow. On an n/a application, unless you have made significant modifications to the engine, a bigger MAF is useless.
Lastly, a good rule of thumb to follow is this....if any company that sells you a MAF states that you can just plug and play w/o changing your injectors and requiring a retune is pretty much stealing your money. |

dude ive been told that so many times its not even funny ive a a great friend with a 96 gt 5 speed under drive long tubes true duals and x pipe throtle body intake and ignitons and were about dead even i dont even argue with people any more when they tell me the gt drivers are shitty or they playing with me ive driven my friends gt b4 and its no faster than our v6 only thing im wondering though is we bought the car useed so im wondering if something was done to it by the previous owner that we dont know about
|
ok i have race a 2005 silverado with all my mods and i have beating them i dont know if they was playing with me.
|
yea lol and my last vehicle was a 02 silverado with the 4.8 and corvette trans and it would embarass a stock gt till the limiter hit 97mph
|
theres no difference between a GT and your V6? okkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.....
and I'm pretty sure you would know if you had a super charger and thats the only way you would be keeping up with them. But whatever I won't argue. Congrats with your stang. Do a dyno run sometime I'm sure all of us would be interested to see the numbers your putting down |
but when i beat the silverado i had all my Torque 100% on in all shift

Bad? Or, do you mean maxed-out? The only way to know for sure is to use a data-logger and measure the voltage comming off the MAF. I think they peg at 5 volts.....if you are getting close to the max voltage, then the MAF can not "see" anymore air flow. However, this has already been done on Mustangs hundreds of times, so it is pretty well known how much hp a stock MAF can support. On a GT, the MAF can support I think 350 hp which is much higher then stock. For the most part, you need to running a super charger or a turbo before you need an upgrade. If you don't upgrade the MAF on a car that is making too much power, you will run lean. Why? Because the MAF will continue to allow more air then it can measure and you won't add enough fuel. Thusly, the MAF itself is really not even restricting flow, it just can not measure it. There are some exceptions, but each MAF is calibrated for a particular size of fuel injectors. Upgrading a MAF requires upgraded fuel injectors and a dyno tune. There are MAF kits which are really not upgrades at all. These devices simply enlarge the opening, but use a different size sample tube thus allowing for the same sized injectors. They also re-use the exiting MAF electronics. This is really not a MAF upgrade, but merely a way to "trick" the car to run lean....thus adding more hp. They have some merrit, but when you start adding other mods, the tune will go really lean. I would avoid these like the plague and dyno tuners hate them.....because you can't tune them. Once you dial in the proper a/f, you loose any benefit you thought you had anyway. |
ok just asking just wanna know

So unless that truck was modded with some serious work, post proof, otherwise leave the claims to yourself. Is a GT some kind of God's gift to the car world? Hell no! I am the first one to call BS on jokers with GT's who talk out their ass as well, but unless anyone has timeslips or track videos, claims of "pullin", or whatever on a street, don't mean dick. Shit, my Chrysler Pacifica could pull on a Mustang from a roll if I caught one just right.....but who cares? I could shove a rocket up my ass...... |

Mods that work and that are worth the money: Gears, UDP's, and X-pipes. Also, to some extent TB's and plenums. Those are really the only "cheap" mods that work. Some CIA's work, most not so much. |

You really should not make statements like that because you loose all credibility. There is no stock Silverado that is going to romp on a GT.....that is just a nonesense comment designed to aggrevate people. You won't find a video or a single time slip backing this up, nor have I ever seen one at a track. Hell, I had a Suburban with a 5.7.....it got off the line.....it could run for 30 feet with a stock stang, but then the rest is history.

The Silverado SS is rated 0 - 60 at 6.9 seconds.....fast for a truck....dam fast.....but still short of 5.5 seconds for a GT.
|
If you dont want to spray it or do gears then you wont be making it much faster for cheap.

and seriously coming around saying your romp on GT's on a forum full of mustang enthusiasts who know how well our cars respond to mods and what you need to beat GT's, cobras, or other v6's is not a good idea. It just makes you look like you really don't know much about cars, and when you are being screwed with. |
Yeah, you pretty much won't see any increase from your current mods until you get a tune. I'd go with a tuner

It just makes you look like you really don't know much about cars, and when you are being screwed with. -1.73 RR's -25% UDP -3.73's manual, 4.10's auto w/ T-lock This is a recipe with a tune for a manual v6 to get into the 14's and a auto v6 into the low 15's. Gears wont hurt gas mileage that much at all unless you get a lead foot, which is mostly what happens. And ya the whole GT's thing isnt cool. As long as the people who drive Gt's give the v6's the respect they have earned, We should do the same to them. 94-97gt's i can beleive you are right there knocking on their door. but not with what mods you said your friend had. |
