what is the stock CAI

What is the stock CAI intake on a 1999 V6? I'm not sure if the person that had it before me had mods.

zigzagg321 03-01-2008 10:16 PM

there really wouldn't be a "stock CAI" CAI stands for "Cold Air Intake"

The stock configuration is an airbox with a panel filter, or a cone filter.

if your engine kind of looks like this: http://www.moddedmustangs.com/wp-con...e99-engine.jpg

then you have some kind of non-stock CAI.

ikito 03-01-2008 10:40 PM

Well there isn't a shiny CAI but theres something that is black and says K&N in that spot. Not sure if its a CAI or not though.

V6_Mustang_Power 03-01-2008 10:46 PM

yeah..its an aftermarket CAI.

ikito 03-02-2008 05:30 AM

Its really short though, like not even half as long as that one in the picture

Actually the short intakes that sit in the engine bay aren't CAIs, ..I believe they're called SRI's (short ram intake) ?

He's probably got this

w/e man, its a freakin CAI...generic name. the point here is, is that he does not have a STOCK air filter assembly. That was the question.

Well as I just pointed out, it's obviously not a freakin' CAI, man. haha

w/e what are you all of a sudden a wordsmith?

when someone says "CAI" most ppl thing of some configuration of... no airbox, smooth angled tube and an exposed larger cone filter, be in the fender well or not.

why try and confuse this guy? he didnt even know if his K&N FIPK was stock or not.

ikito 03-02-2008 07:32 PM

Can someone just post a picture of the stock air box, ill tell you if thats what i have.

mustangvsix 03-02-2008 08:01 PM

it's a short cold ram air scoop! :p In all fairness it is a pipe with a filter that isn't going to show any gains for us unfortunately.

slap a turbo or supercharger on the car and they'll help a bit. lol

Dave04Mustang 03-02-2008 11:34 PM

lol yeah a cai is just a cai.. saying some are something else is like saying those ebay intakes are hai (hot air intake) since that stupid metal tube heats the air more than a K&N FIPK

ikito 03-03-2008 05:58 AM

That picture is what mine looks like.

tsumi88 03-03-2008 08:15 AM

maybe someone just stuck a K&N filter in and slapped the sticker on the box/pipe?

ikito 03-03-2008 02:22 PM

maybe so..i have no idea

SSSTANG 03-06-2008 07:31 PM

Did you take my HAI thing serious? I was being sarcastic I have a FIPK and I know what it does lol. I was referring to the stainless steel tubes that heat the air.

lol :D

EDIT: Not that it matters but the K&N keeps the air cooler than your fender well intake :D

SSSTANG 03-06-2008 10:35 PM

Oh no we've had this whole HAI argument on other forums ...

And MY fender well intake is almost on the ground.... my iat temps are 160 so I'm sure your fpik keeps it cooler than that. My old BBK I don't know about however.
