im confused
so just tell me if im way off. i dont mean to be so noob but i just cant get a grip on this and i read the sticky on it like 5 times.
so i think that i run form my stock headers to this http://www.americanmuscle.com/v6duexadkit.html then to a cat back. but ware do the mufflers go then? or do i just cut out the stock y pipe and put in an h then onto mufflers then to a cat back. i think that was all right but just tell me if im crazy or if u have and ideas. oh and i have a 98 v6 3.8 auto. |
A catback is just what it sounds like from the cats back. This where the mufflers are at. I personally think hacking the y is a waste of money i would either get a set of true duals fabbed up locally or go a bolt on h-pipe and then whatever catback you want.
yeah ok so do i just go to a shop and ask for a quote for them to run a true duel. and will that have the cats on cause i think pa is a bitch with emmisions. and that doesnt need a cat back right/
Depends on what they will do. If you want the cats gone and they will cut them off then there is your answer, if they wont then there is your other answer. True duals are simply pipes comming straight back from the stock manifolds all the way back to the cats (if you keep them) and then to the mufflers then out the back. If they wont cut the cats they can make some true duals from behind the cats and back.
ok will that sound alright then?
Well dont kid yourself into thinking it will sound like a v8 it wont. But for a v6 it will sound good. i would use a chambered muffler like a Mac, i personally dont like flowmaster so i dont recommend them. Plus every car and bike and scooter has them.
ok yeah and im not trying to be a v8 neways i like my 6er. i jsut want it to sound good. and i will look into mac then. thanks
flowmaster FTL.

ok then what would you recomend?
MAC.
Buy a MAC H pipe and then the MAC GT Catback and you will be happy in my opinion
i love my mac catback its the pro dumps but they sound sick and x pipes are supposed to be better than H pipes but it's your car just have fun with it good luck!!!
X-pipes are worse idea ever on a even firing v6 motor.
Bassani sounds awsome on the GT's and the v6's. its what i have and i deffinitly recomend it. but what ever you do stay away from flowmasters.
does anyone know the average price for True Dual if you go to a custom exhaust shop?

yeah that is what i thought
so im going to go with a true dual cause i think it will be a little cheeper. and i was wondering if those chain stores do set ups like that and if so is that alright or should i look for a custom shop.
chain stores is where your typically going to run into problems. I would find a good custom shop that specializes in things like that.
am i going to loose power/torque if i get true duals? i herd this someware. i thought i would gain power.
it won't be noticeable
If you go to large int he piping you will loose power. You will lose some bottom end power but uptop it will gain and thats where you want it. I would look in you local yellow pages google maps etc. to find a shop that does custom exhaust work. You would want to stay with 2 1/4" piping unless you are getting a blower later on. The 2.5" isnt needed for n/a lightly modded 3.8 cars.

Kinda, true duals is just a single pipe with no crossover on each bank of cylinders going all the way back and out. Where as mid pipes for our cars would be either a H or X pipe which connects each bank of cylinders.
What about the prochamber, thats a mid pipe:D |
Just be careful. You said you live in Pennsylvania and they are just as bad as New Jersey as far as emissions Make sure you keep the cats and stay away from exhaust setups that are labeled as "offroad"
;) |
I would recomennd staying away from the chain stores. I went to one up here and they quoted me 1k for everything all said and done and were saying i should go with a X pipe. I said screw that and went to a custom shop and they actually knew what they were talking about and it only cost me $500 dollars and they did a great job. Only issue i ran into was they forgot to put the H pipe on but i pointed it out and they glady put it up in the air and put the H pipe on for me.
yeah i new pa was kinda strict and i just need to find a custom shop around hear. i cant think of any off the top of my head.
