Cold Air Intake question
 

So I just fell into a CAI system from a friend of mine who upgraded from an '04 V6 mustang to an '07 mustang so I told him if I could get the CAI to go in my 2000 V6 I would take it off his hands. Everything fits fine except I think I need a mass airflow sensor adapter to finish the job. I can only find them in 3" and 4" and the 3 is too small and the 4 is too big. The sensors sit in different places on the two cars so I believe I need that adapter so I can bracket the CAI together. Is it not going to be compatible because of the difference in years or can I make it work?

what air intake is it so we know what your talking about. If you have a brand name intake they work 99-04.

EDIT: All you have to do is take the mass air sensor out of the stock and attach it to your new intake and plug it in.. its suppose to be a tight fit. I might just not understand what your talking about but the part where you say it sits in different places.. that doesn't make sense because your suppose to take it out of the stock airbox which is basically the same on both years also. I think yours has a temperature plug also which the 04's don't. But thats the actual intake not the air sensor

From what I looked up it's a MAC part# 3620 99-04 V6 Cold Air Kit. So I am certain it should work. The problem is connecting the two pipes. The bigger pipe has a bracket with four bolts but the smaller pipe fits inside the bigger pipe but there are no brackets to connect them together. Maybe it is in the stock system and when I pull it apart I will find it? Hopefully that helps you help me. haha. I appreciate the reply.

The spot with the bolts is where the Mass Air Sensor bolts on to the intake and then the small pipe most likely attaches onto the other side of the Mas Air Sensor. The picture above should help what I'm explaining to you. Let me know if you have any more problems or don't understand

get your fabrication on. there are very few true bolt on parts in the world.

Thank you for the help. I have done work on manual transmissions and some engine work but never air intakes. Turns out the part I thought I was missing must just be part of the stock one. It's the black piece between the pipes which you say is the mass air sensor and it's part of my stock intake. Thank you for the help, at least it looks like an easy fix. Thank goodness for message boards, even if you feel like an idiot sometimes. ;)

So I installed it this afternoon. So far so good. Feels smooth, sounds good. Don't hear any leaks or anything. There's maybe a quick pop kind of like a backfire when I first start but I only heard it once, not even sure if I heard it cause I haven't heard it again.

as long as you have made sure everything is tightly and fully secured you will be fine.
