3.73 or 4.10

i don't know what to go with because i don't want to hurt my top speed so i was thinking of the 3.73 but will 3.73s still be good on the launch? this car is all so my daily driver what do you guys think i should use?

v6'stang 09-25-2007 06:28 PM

doesn't ANYONE read the sticky on this anymore? or the previous 200000000000000 posts?

go w/3.73's if it's a stick, 4.10's if it's auto, some say 4.10's always, but most say what i previously typed. and ya gotta get rid of ur top speed limiter before ya go haulin' ass first...and get tires that can handle the speed....

ok thanks. i did not know theres a sticky ill go read that sorry.

v6'stang 09-25-2007 06:45 PM

cliff notes: go 4.10 if auto

3.8for the win 09-26-2007 10:12 AM

i think ill get the 4.10 because my car is a automatic .

v6'stang 09-26-2007 12:02 PM

also don't forget to get the master seal/bearing kit for it too. AM just so happens to have a good selection of gears and a nice bearing kit...

3.8for the win 09-26-2007 05:17 PM

what about this package because i was thinking of get a t-lok http://www.stangmods.com/Mustang-Gea...0346-pack2.htm

v6'stang 09-26-2007 06:21 PM

get the gears and bearings from AM (here), get the tlok from v6mustangstuff.com, and get the gear oil and friction modifier from either ur ford dealer or local autoparts store. u'll spend less then the 450 for the kit. but still price check everything to double check me.

3.8for the win 09-26-2007 06:36 PM

ok ill look around thanks.

v6'stang 09-26-2007 06:40 PM

no prob. i've nvr ordered from v6mustangstuff.com, but i've heard they're alright. i got my tlok from jegs and the gears and bearings from AM. for most of the stuff AM carries ur not gonna find a better deal. (and no i don't work for them lol)

3.8for the win 09-26-2007 06:49 PM

i got my exhaust from v6mustang stuff and i would buy from them again.

v6'stang 09-27-2007 06:26 AM

awesome, i've been a lil skeptical about them myself...but that's just how i am about most websites. i might try'em out sumtime...so have ya decided where ur getti'n ur stuff yet?

3.8for the win 09-27-2007 07:37 PM

i don't know yet im going to make a few more car payments be for i buy the stuff.

4.10 is not going to make my car really revved up will it?

WaterDR 09-28-2007 07:18 PM

You can't go wrong with either gear choice, but I would be willing to bet that if you got the 3.73's you would wish you had 4.10's.

The car will cruise at higher rpms and you will loose 1 - 2 mpg, but the car will be a lot more fun to drive.

Loosing top speed? First off, you won't notice it, because you should not be driving that fast. Second, on paper going to 3.73's or 4.10's will cost you on the top-end, HOWEVER, in reality, you may see your top speed increase. Your car is not speed limited by gearing, it is limited by wind resistance and the hp you are making at that point. With the 4.10's, you will be a little higher in the power band and thus making a bit more power to help overcome some of the drag. As a result, your top speed may actually increase.

What will change is how the car performs and different highways speeds. For example, if the car has a sweet spot in 3rd gear at 60 mph, the new sweet spot may now be at 55 mph, or 70 mph in 4th. The whole dynamics of how you can drive will be different.

Lastly, 4.10s' will not necessarily make the car faster. Lots of people report slower 1/4 mile times after a gear swap until they really learn to master the car.

thanks that info it helped.but if i start from a dead stop its not going to go like to 3500 or 4000 rpm before for it shifts will it?

mpt_1962 09-29-2007 11:43 PM

it shifts normally, just gets up and goes quicker. Read the thread and it will explain how it works.
