does anybody have a good site for me to do some research on gears for my 2000 v6? I know pretty much nothing about what to shop for but have heard reallly good things from everyone who has upgraded. thanks

How aobut this site lol. We have a gear thread sticky as well as many posts on it. We can tell you where what you need and maybe who can install it if you tell us where you live. And it is a nice performance upgrade mod.

so what am i looking for in the specs?
and what is the 3.73 and 4.10 stand for?
And when i finally choose, will it effect any other mods i might make afterwards?

Well, there is a thread about this already, as spike previousely pointed out.
3.73 and 4.10 stand for how many driveshaft rotations are needs for one full rotation of the wheels. 4.10 means that for every RPM you are going a bit slower than you would with 3.73's or stock gearing (3.27 I believe) However, this gets you into your powerband quicker, therefore increasing 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, and lowering your tippy top end a little bit, and making your RPMs a little higher at highway speeds, which is where the lower gas mileage idea comes from. However, around town you may actually be able to get better gas mileage by putting the car one gear higher than usual, actually lowering your RPMs from where they would be.
FRPP makes slightly more expensive 'higher quality gears' but I have been told motives are fine aswell. As for future mods? Ive been told if you plan on going forced induction stay with 3.73's. More information available here.

i've got killer gas mileage w/my 3.73's. i went to cocoa beach a couple weeks ago and got like 26 mpg. and around town it's not uncommon for me to get 22mpg now, i'd never get that w/stock gears. i luv'em

Kinda right the drive shaft turns once and the axles turn 3.73 or 4.10 times per driveshaft revolution. Ford racing gears are made by motive so the werd is. So dont worry about getting ford racing gears it doesnt matter. The only thing that matter is you have a good installer who knows how to actully do it correctly or they will whine (make noise).

As for the gears and other mods they will help the whole car no matter what mods are done to go faster and get into the powerband faster. However the v6 doe snot come with a posi so this is a great time to do it as the labor is the same wether you do add a posi or not. I would to get the most traction possible. YOu need a posi for a Ford 7.5" rear end the ford one is called the T-lok. You can search ebay etc... for those. ANy posi for the ford 7.5" rear end will work not the chevy 7.5 ford only and not the 8.8" one either.

go with 4.10, you'll see the biggest differance with them, plus you already have a v6 so gas isnt as much an issue as a v8

sadly your choices are limited to 3.73's and 4.10's really with the 7.5" ford rear no makes many different gears for that size housing. If you had a turbo car or supercharged car with a manual i would say 3.73's otherwise 4.10's for everything else. The v6 enjoys the gearing alot to get more torque out of it.

So, if i were to have a 94 or 95 gt or cobra, and wanted to swap gears, which ones would be best? would it be better to swap the axle too? i've been told that the 3.73's are good for a stick, but also 3.55's would work too.

the gt's and cobra's already have the 8.8" rear under them, so unless you want to upgrade to a 9" rear (if u've got mega-horsepwr and torque) then just leave the 8.8". personally i'd stick 3.73's under either. 3.55's are kinda close to whats already in there.
