whats the best air filter?
i was looking at a bbk and a k&n air filter but i dont no wich 1 will give me the most power
|
I like fram air hog, because my car would ping with K&N even after recharging it and cleaning the MAF.
they are the same thing pretty much. i have a steeda CAI on mine now though. |
which 1 would you think would be better the steeda or the the other 1 i forget the name
|
steeda, mac, k&n, bbk, they are all pretty close.
|
ok thanks i think ill go with k&n :closed:
|
don't think steeda has a sixer kit, but i could be wrong.
hey just go with a generic CAI 70 bucks at AmericanMuscle.com its the bbk intake just with out the name on it. |

Stay away from that cheap crap. BBKs have heat absorbtion with damage your engine. Get a K&N FIPK system or a MAC CAI. Look on the MAC website and they have two kinds for V6. a Mass Flow or a regular straight flow, Mass flow is a little over 200 though. Definetly don't get those off of ebay that are dirt cheap and seem like a good deal because the rubber fitings start to rot and the chrome finish fades in matter of 6 months. It Really depends what you want it to look like because MAC CAI are chrome finished and K&N are black finished. Best recomendation is MAC or K&N!
Spending over 150$ on an intake is a stupid decision, especially since you only gain 2 HP at the most. It's more economical to just rip out your stock air silencer and buy a drop in K&N filter for the stock intake Better off saving that money a little and buying an ASP under drive pulley |

My "cheap crap" is still shiny and the grommets are all in good condition, and it's been about a year now.

LOL at the guy who said BBK CAI have heat absorption and damage the engine but says MAC is good. LOL they're the exact same thing same materials and everything. Only difference is MAC CAI doesn't have the BBK name plate on it.
Anyways here's a good quick run through for you: BBK/MAC: Nice chrome finish, good quality, it does get hot due to the metal intake but it will not result in damage to the engine. K&N: Nice peice, black plastic so no real bling value but does not absorb as much heat as the metal intakes like BBK/MAC. Ebay intakes: Hit or miss, there are alot of good ones and a lot of bad ones like anything else on ebay read carefully and only buy from someone with almost perfect feedback. Just my opinion on ebay though. So yea there you go no matter what it's a CAI kit it'll add maybe 1-2 rwhp. The best thing it does is give your exhuast note a deeper grumble and a cool woosh sound when you turn the car off, I love that sound LOL. So yea get whatever you like with however much you want to spend. When you get to things like superchargers, heads, nitrous etc. that's when what it is and who makes it matters the most. |
yep, i have a bbk cai goin' on 4 yrs now. still as shiney as the day i got it! and yea it'll absorbe a lil heat, it's metal! but what's the difference between the heat the filter sucks up thru ur engine compartment or the heat it might get from teh tube? or is that a different type of heat sneakyweasel? lol

I have a K&N FIPK works great but I bought mine used. They are pretty pricey (around $200 bucks :shakeno: ) so buying a used one is more cost efficient for the little that it does
