Are 20's too much for a Stang??
I was wantin' to put 20's on my 01' convert. Is that too much or should i go with 18's?
18s without a doubt.
THANKS!! I found some I love that are 18's...Thats what I'll do then!
Remember this is not an SUV 20" will be to big. 18" are just right, I just got my tires for 18 Roush wheels cant wait to put them on.
18's all the way on the 99-04...but on the 05's...well 19's and 20's don't look too far out of place....

18 is definitely the max, 17-inch Bullitt's fill the wheel well nicely IMO.
I don't like 18's because they weight too much, slow the car down, cost you traction, ride is rougher and tires cost more. With all that, I would hope that you like the looks of 18's a lot, because you sure pay for them otherwise.
I agree with Iceman's comments. 17's to me are as big as a tire should be. Mustang's are a performance car. It seems crazy to me when guys do "things" to their cars that slow them down, |
I want those steeda ultra-lite II's mmmm too bad they're like $1500 for the set.
20's will cost you HP/Tq BIG time, stick with the 18's, I myself will never use anything above 17's x 10.5 .
i only got 18s to make my car look good when im around town and i still have my 17's for racing. oh yeah and i got my chrome steedas for a kick ass price too about 60 bucks more then the silver set
To be honest, since this is a V6 thread...18's are WAY too much...for GT's they are not so bad, but performance on a 6 with 18's is terrible!

18s are too big I believe 17s are the max for 94s... and for any other than the cobra R it just screws up the mechanics of the vehicle I think you need to buy camber plets for it in order to put 18s on the mustang.
Get the right weight and it should be fine. but in order to turn the wheel you might want to up the gear ratio to 3.55 or 3.73 because the v6 had a 2.73 gear ratio then, didn't turn **** :( |
17's
i think for looks 20's would be sweet but i talked to a guy that had to cut up his car a lil to fit them. 18's would be fine but the bigger the rims the rougher your car rides so i would stick to 17's at the most.

The reason why 18's dont work is that when its 16 upped to 17 the tire width stays the same... 17's to 18 would cause a bigger tire that the mustang isn't design for. hence the mechanics get all screwed up. the only stang made to handle the 18 was the 01 Type R. You would need to change camber plates and realign the suspension and **** to get 18s on a reg v6 or GT Won't cost Trqe or HP, just the gear ratio isnt correct for the wheel size increase, up that and there is no loss :D |

There was a featured Stang in MMFF mag that had I think 20" deep dish Bullit wheels.
Im not saying you HAVE to I would reccomend it for ride comfort, yeah you need to pick the right tire size so there is no addition hieght, but it's also a big rim you need to get ultralights or up the breaks which are small enough as it is trying to stop 17's on a GT.
Ride alot ruffer
If mustangs dont ride ****ty enough when you put the bigger rims with low profile tires you are even getting a worse ride but cobra rims are soo nice i had to get a set.
I don't know where everyone in here is from, but out here in Austin, Tx everyone seems to be putting 18's, 19's, and 20's on everything, including the countless Mustang I've seen running around here. So far all of the Mustangs I've seen with 20's on them just look like Sh*t!!! It seems that the ground clearance is way to high! They look like there trying to be a SUV....
they will fit but will look like absolute crap
20's are too much and you would lose performance with that big of a rim. The best size you can get is 18 which i think you should go with. Get some nice Saleen rims or Steeda Ultra lights.
