Need help with CAI install

I ordered a MT CAI and I've got a few problems.

1. One of the 2 couplers I got are too damn big on one end. The only pipe it fits on is the one that goes from the filter to the MAF, and neither end needs a coupler. The other pipe is too small and so is the other end of the MAF. I've tried every which way of arranging the couplers and can't figure it out.

2. The skinny black hose that hooks into the rubber grommet on the pipe that goes from the throttle body to the MAF isn't short enough to reach the grommet. Anyone else have this problem? I was just wondering if MT send me the wrong part or if I am supposed to buy some more hose.

Pictures would be nice also if it all possible. The picture in the MT instructions is slightly different than my set-up because it's a GT.

did you accidentaly buy a GT CAI?

Nope. Receipt says MT V6 CAI (99-03). It never came with instructions. I've been going off the ones on MT but they're generic and the pic in them is on a GT. It's set up different.

Bomz racing or w/e, the one I bought had similar problems, there is a way to get it fitting but it requires some dremel work, and cutting. The pipe going from the TB to MAF was angled incorrectly, so I had to saw off some of it at a different angle to properly align it, and the couple attaching that pipe to the TB was so long that it would make the pipe hit the side of the engine well, causing problems with fitment, so I had to cut that coupler about 1/2 size to get it fitting good..

Also mine didn't even come with a vacuum hose so I had to make a make-shift one.

Well I got the couplers to fit. Still have a problem with the hose not reaching the grommet. I was assuming the V6 99-03 CAI would fit a 99 V6, my fault for assuming. I still think these tubes are too damn long because I've tried every way to jimmy this thing and try to get it to fit and it seems like there's about an inch of extra piping.

Cut the piping.

My stock hose didn't reach the grommet either, I just used some hose laying around in the garage, works fine.

I don't have access to any tools to cut it with. I don't have **** here at my moms house. I'll have to wait until I see my dad again.

Finally got that sucker in. I forgot they opened a new AAP down the street because the closest auto parts store other than that is about 15 min away. I bought some vacuum tubing and shaved about a half an inch off of the pipe that is connected to the TB and she fits like a glove. It's actually still pretty snug and was a little tough to get on but I don't have to worry about anything slippin' out. Works really good. At WOT I can def tell it's quite a bit louder and it accelerates faster. I needed an air filter change anyhow because the one I took out of there was pretty messy. All in all the product itself is great, just a little frustrated with the installation, I'm not very patient at all. :flameON:

Glad to hear all worked out for you in the end. kinda weird they sell something you have to modify to make fit huh?

SlicK 09-29-2006 04:27 PM

Yea, like I said, I'm not patient at all. I was pretty pissed when I had to go buy some hose and shave that **** down but it wasn't really a big deal. 2 bucks for 2 ft. of hose.
