Exhaust

On Thursday I'm getting an X-pipe put on and the muffler cut off and 2 stainless steel tips put on for true duels i have a K&N intake how do ya'll think it will sound?

spike_africa 07-24-2006 04:30 PM

Very loud and raspy. You might wanna put some mufflers on there trust me, loud is cool and all but after a few months it wont be anymore.

trickedoutstangg 07-24-2006 04:31 PM

are we talkin like my are soundin like a fart can aka rice? cuz im gettin the X-pipe, muffler cut off, and 4 inch chrome tips im lookin for a nice sound

zigzaggthefag321 07-24-2006 04:44 PM

are you getting muffler cut-outs? or removing the mufflers all together? Muffler cutouts would be cool cause you can change the sound at a pull of a lever or flip of a switch. No mufflers at all and your car is gonna sound like poo all the time.

trickedoutstangg 07-24-2006 04:48 PM

im getting them out all together what are muffler cut outs?

TEXASPAUL 07-24-2006 04:50 PM

they're like a hole in the muffler u can open and close to make the car louder of quieter...

zigzaggthefag321 07-24-2006 04:52 PM

Dont remove them all together you will regret it I promise. cut outs are a "Y" shaped fitting that goes on your exhaust before the mufflers that you can open and close from inside the car. when open it bypasses your mufflers and lets the exhaust out with no muffling. close them and the exhaust goes through the mufflers like normal.

trickedoutstangg 07-24-2006 04:56 PM

how would u control it from inside the car? And how much would this run me?

zigzaggthefag321 07-24-2006 04:59 PM

the 2 types are cable actuated...needs a cable ran into the car or underneath if you dont mind stopping and getting out to pull it...or electric via a button you mount inside the car. Google it...a bunch will come up. Just dont abandon your mufflers all together.

Don't get your tips 4 inches either, thats a little ricey. I think mine are 3.5" (maganpacks) and they are as big as anyone should have on a mustang. I'm not trying to diss v-6's either, but not 4 inches especially on a v6. I think 4 would be too much an a GT.

Also, think about switching to an H pipe also. X will be super raspy since its a sixxer. You can still get a loud sound with an H pipe and it will make it sound more like a "mustang", nice and deep. I know someone with an X on their v6 and its alright, but he put an H pipe on because he got one for like 90 bucks used and it sounded so much better. Just make sure you know what you want when it comes to exhaust because you have to hear it every day.

I dont have any mufflers and all i get are compliments. then again, it is a GT.
I had the stock midpipe cut out from the cats back and had a 3in diameter x pipe welded into place, mufflers were completly removed, and it goes to the stock tubing over the rear axle then comes out to a pair of chrome 3.5in angle tips. Looks fuggin great and sounds awesome.

They have DMH cutouts that do what yer talking about, bit pricey, but controlled from within the car.

trickedoutstangg 07-24-2006 05:03 PM

alright ill look into the H pipe and the cut outs im gettin all tis done for 347 i guess thats a decent deal

trickedoutstangg 07-24-2006 05:21 PM

has anyone heard a v6 mustang without mufflers before im kinda curious on how it would sound

yeah, it would sound cool with a V-8

chatmanv6 07-24-2006 07:14 PM

i had a 04 6 with no mufflers.....LOUD AND RASPY...i mean loud..true duels...keep your mufflers

95bstallion 07-24-2006 07:30 PM

As we speak i have no mufflers it sounds kind of gurgly and not soo good. I'm waiting for my borla side exhaust to get installed. As long as you have cats it wont be that bad.

i see a lot of people that have exhaust that comes out before the back wheels. i really like this. is it hard to do?

Lizardbreath2 07-27-2006 12:35 AM

On my old V6 I just chopped off the old mufflers and put on magnaflows and changed the tips and it sounded just fine stock.

There are a lot of side exhaust kits for Mustangs. I'll assume you have a V6 since it's the V6 forums. Here's a few links:

Roush
Classic Design Concepts
Spintech
Steeda

And I know there are some I'm missing. The CDC one is cool because it comes with side skirts and dual exhaust hole covers for GT owners, Roush has custom sides too.
