V6 Exhaust System Question
 

Hey,

I am gonna end up getting a new exhaust becaues my other one is shot. If you could possibly give me a link of some sort of website of one under 300 bucks thats worth it, i would really enjoy it. So if you would be willing to help, i would love it!

ya i was trying to decide about what to do with mine too... i was thinkin gt adapter thing+slp. anyone know how that would sound on a v6?

i was hoping to go with the duals cuz i want a meaner sound, but don't wanna spend a fortune......think you can find one that will sound bomb for under 300 bucks......if so can i have the link please

There are a few exhaust systems that sound good and then there is one that sounds great on v6's. Mac, Flowmaster, Spintech all have a very nice tone and dont cost you a arm and a leg for a catback syste. Bassani is the best mufflers ive heard on a v6 by far. You could buy bassani mufflers for around 120 and have a exhaust shop make you some tailpipes. Its all up to you.

that setup is not true duals though right? if so... whats the big difference between true duals and just a y-pipe into duals on a V6? i am seriously considering what exhuast to get right now but i dont wanna spend 600$+ for true duals and then not be happy... i want loud as hell true duals. (but i dont want ricer loud duals...)

Under 300 bucks? U said you had a previous exhaust...what set up?...

The y pipe is just restricting flow. No the sounds wont change a whole lot because you still have cats, but it should make a little difference. If you ever plan on doin any heavy modding cut off two of your cats and run straight pipe to the other set. This will still sound good, but have more tone.

gimmz i am thinking of doing the spintech side exhuast... but i dont want the exhuast just hanging under the car. i wanna get like either the saleen side skirts and get them cut out to fit the exhuast.... or something... i also want different tips to make them look nice on the side of the car... but i am willing to spend the 600$ if it makes it loud as hell and a good sound.

You dont want to use the y pipe if you dont have too thats all im saying. When i say this i mean it!!! if you want to spend money for an exhaust taht sounds good then get bassani!!!

ya but i am NOT going to spend over 600$ for an exhuast on my V6... thats ridiculous. If I had a GT or Cobra... then it would be a different story. But 600$ is the highest ill go for an exhuast. so with that being said.... what are my options...?

you do not need a cross over ...at most, you may get 1 hp extra on our V6 cars, and also you may get a slightly lower tone in your exhaust note...the only reason you need to do a cross over is becuase you plan on building some serious power out of your car,then the y-pipe is too restrictive... but like most of us, as much as we want the supercharged V6, it just isn't likely...

also no my setup is not a true dual set up since i use the y-pipe...

yes, my friend who has a 5.0 agrees with me, and all my friends that it is just as deep and loud at low rpm's as his, obviously his does get way louder, and deeper but it helps having the 2 additional cylindars(i don't want to hear people say no, because it is a sixer, this is all opinion...)

i don't think you can switch the mufflers, since they come welded to the pipes to make it a true bolt on system...

150$ for your exhuast and install? that site that you linked to has the exhuast for 300$ alone.... anyways... so i can buy the system you have... and then just buy an x or h-pipe from somewhere and have true duals? is that right? this is really important i get all my exhuast questions out now because i am gonna go buy my exhuast next week and get it installed within the month... thanks for the help

yeah the 150$ was my reaction too...i thought like 100 at the most i mean it is an exhaust, and now i hate myself since i have helped two of my friends install cat-back exhausts on their hondas...
no you can't buy the system i have and put an x or h pipe on...you need this system made for gt's but you would need the x or h pipe then to install it...don't worry it is the same price but instead of the ypipe adapter it has the proper connections for the h or x pipe...http://www.brenspeed.com/mustang_46/mufflers.html
if you do the exhaust off the new link then you need, need the h or x pipe to bolt it up, and then yes you will have a true dual system...

what you would need to buy for my system:
the exhaust system itself, and you will need the additional brackets for holding up the other muffler, i got them through them, you just need to tell them you want them when you order your sytem, they are 50$.

if you want the true dual system:
the exhaust system in that new link i just gave you...
the additional brackets for holding the other muffler...
an h or x pipe...

hmmm so i guess i know what i am gonna do.... i am gonna get the true dual setup. i dont know what kind of x or h-pipe ill with though... but first thing is first ill get that catback GT setup they got. also... i was wondering because 50$ seems pretty high for some brackets... so would an exhuast shop be able to make those for cheaper?

i was wondering.... could i just buy an h-pipe and get flowmasters 40 seriers and run dumps?.... my friend told me that it was possible to do that... although i wouldnt have duals exhuast sticking out of the back... i would have alot louder sound... and it would problly be alot cheaper without the catback system... any ideas?

for the brackets, i am not sure what an exhaust shop would be able to do...you might check auto zone or some place like that and see what they would charge...as for just buying an h pipe and having a shop weld some flow 40's to dump, you would need them to fab up some piping in between the h pipe, and where the mufflers mount...but yes it should work, and would probably be alot cheaper and louder...you would want to talk to an exhaust shop probably before hand to make sure they can do it,which they should be able to, and also so that you don't get any suprises when it comes time to pay...

awesome... i think thats what i am gonna do... cuz i dont think the true duals all the way to the back will be loud enough for me... as for mufflers i think i might go with the 40 series flowmasters... any opinions or ideas?

I seriously recommend checking out the 3.8 Mustang Board - Exhaust Opinions Thread. There's a load of clips of exhaust and a lot of feedback from people on their setups.

Dont do anything until check those out.

Everyone that i know that has changed their flows for spintechs LOVES the spintechs 1000times better, that and flows haven't been known to flow that well...

mustangvsix: are you from Maryland? I saw that guy has a MD license plate in that vid...

my system cost me 100 bucks and it sounds pretty good. I bought the h-pipe adapter from MT and bolted up a stock gt exhaust out of a manual because the manual has different mufflers from the autos. I got lucky because my friend gave me the exhaust because he took them of his gt. I sounds pretty nice too.

Dat a babe! U doin the Side exit or rear...cuz side exit is pretty expensive but IMO worth every penny!

I'll just get some ProStreets and go out the rear. The side exit is just too much money/work. Although its pretty sweet ::p

Actually it's alot less...work believe it or not...but yeah it is hella expensive...
