Can I get some help on modifying my V6 stock?

Hey all....anyway....Im new to this whole forum thing so bare with me. To make a long story short, I got a 2002 Mustang V6 3.8 stock. I need help and opinions on what I should do to modify it...of course my first stop is dual exhaust and Im thinking 40 series flowmasters. After that I hope you guys can help me...I`m only 19 so Im lucky in the 1st place to have a Mustang period especially as my first car...I knew a GT or Cobra or a Saleen was OUT! lol but if ya`ll could....give me some feed on what I can do to get the best out of my 6er that will make for good looks...performance... n to make people just say DAMN! Thanx

same bet here.....19 and would love to have a gt but insurance would kill me so i got a sixer. But yeah i wouldnt go with flows. Personally they are nice, but not loud. I have a true dual set-up on mine and they get peoples attention at like 4-5k rpm. If you are looking for some loud pipes ive herad magnaflows are good or spintec side exhaust. Also 3.73 gears and a underdrive pulley.

gears make the biggest differnce...im loving mine.

I think im the youngest... 15 with 2000 Mustang V6 3.8L. I worked long hard hours to afford it. I love her to death!! But after buying "The Beast" :shifty: it took all my money and i dont have any to buy any performance upgrades. So this summer and all next year after school im going to be working for 1) H-pipe Dual Exhaust. 2) BBK Cold Air Intake 3) Lambo Doors After that im plaining on changing out the carpet and seats to black...black leather seats :punk: . Thats my list... any suggestions that are affordable would be nice.

Peace...

GREG@94GT 02-27-2006 06:55 PM

get a short throw shifter (if a stick that is)

exhaust (header, mid pipe, cat/ muffs)
k&n filter (nuttin fancy, dont need a cold air IMO)
wheels and meat
anything else "show wise"
underdrive pullies
other basic "bolt ons"

then decide if ya want to stay N/A or get a power adder

n/a -> cams intake or even internals, pistons etc

s/c-> well yeh, i think you can just get a kit and it'll work

turbo-> cant help ya there either

nitrous

well, the possibilities are really endless...

SilverStanga6 02-27-2006 09:11 PM

Thanx 4 that...yea i`m thinkin about gettin some of that done to her in due time...my main focus ryte now is my dual exhaust....Im getting ready to get true duals put on...but I want a muffler that sounds aggressive and deep...( basically a sound that lets others kno Im not one to screw with) becuz where I live...we have a strip and all the hot cars be there...from stangs...to eclipses...those damn noisy hondas ( i hate em) and others...and Im an instant target for street racing just becuz of the nature of a stang...so u kno...but im takin it slow...jus doin mod after mod till im done....but back to exhausts and mufflers im leanin towards 40 series flowmasters....I want my car to sound similar to the likes of a cobra or GT....something stronger u kno..cuz im not just going to give up on my 6er.Its my first car and Im not gonna dump her like a bad habit....Im going to mod her till im satisfied u dig?
I like that quote....Any idoit can make a V8 go fast...but it takes a special idiot to make a V6 go fast! SO TRUE! any thoughts? get at me

1st point..commas and periods do wonders for people who have no clue what youre saying.

2nd point. V6 mustangs were not built to be heavily modified. Not comparing them to ricers, but in essence, they're nice looking, sporty cars, with economic engines and conservative performance. The reason cavs and civics and accords dont go that fast is because their eingines arent built for performance, and throwing a turbo on would nearly kill the engine so you'd hafta replace the internals. My point being, V6 stangs are for people who like the looks, but dont want/need the performance. Just looks at the engine, tranny, rear end, tires, and looks. They're all very conservative. i am NOT dissing the v6's because you can dress them up exactly like v8's and look even nicer(take grimmz, jason24, and milos for example) but by the time you get a v6 faster than a v8, you will have put so much into the engine and tranny, it won't have been worth it.

Still though keep on truckin:punk:

Milos 02-27-2006 10:13 PM

keep onnnn truckin'.. :devil2:

Ehhh I still say we handle better then GTs'...sometimes drivin my friends GT feels like im in a sail boat tryin to make a turn...

If you haven't already thought aboutit, Rims RIMS RIMS, not ghettos ones, MTing has a Great selection...that will set the car off...then some H&R springs to lower it, and as for performance i like the Spintech Dual side exhaust great sound, comes out the sides and gives ya about 9 hp at the wheels...as far as a full exhaust that'll set you back about a grand without install... im tryin to get headers and mid pipe now and it's lookin like 600 bucks or so... i've also heard great things about 3.73 gears and a tune...but it might hurt the gas mileage if your on the highway alot...

TEGO210 02-28-2006 09:48 AM

get some 19's to turn them corners

SilverStanga6 02-28-2006 08:12 PM

Yea I agree about 6ers handling better than GTs. Im not taking anything away from V8s, but maybe its jus a annoyance of mine because where I am its like V8 this and V8 that;so the more I hear that, the more I appreciate my 6. Anywayz, me myself, I`m leaning towards getting some 18x9 Saleen polished or chrome Saleen rims for my car. I saw a good selection of rims on ebay at a reasonable price so that might be an investment for me. As far as lowering it, thats a must. I`m taking care of what I consider the basics for my car before I get into anything big.

WaterDR 02-28-2006 08:38 PM

Make the car ANYWAY you like...it is yours. If you wanted a GT, just don't wake up one day and say "crap, for all the money I spent modding this thing, I could have had a GT and then some". BUT, if you prefer a personalized V-6, then by all means, go for it.

SilverStanga6 02-28-2006 08:51 PM

Yeah that is true. I mean I see what you`re saying because I know everything that I have lined up to be done 2 her is going to take a long while but that`s all kool tho. At this point I`d rather have a 6 instead of a GT anyway for my own reasons. I`m just looking for ideas on getting the best out of my 3.8. Performance and styling both I`m modifing.I just need a little advice on where I can get the best quality and price that will fit my budget. Like at this point, I`m for a superchip rather than a supercharger or procharger or whatever because I dont have 2 or 3 thousand bucks to jus dish off like that you know?Any other thing that can improve horsepower and speed. I don`t know what Ford was thinking when they decided " Hey lets give the 2002 V6 190 horsepower, I mean what the hell?Thats a shame.Thanx tho. Oh and that is NICE GT u got there...very sick. Keep it hot.

WaterDR 02-28-2006 08:53 PM

A nice safe, nitrous setup might be a good fit for you. AND, you can take it off and sell it when you get rid of the car.

the v6 is a budget car... so anyone w/ a decent job can afford one... ha ha... if not for the v6, i highly doubt there would have been a mustang at all...

Milos 03-01-2006 11:11 AM

And don't be afraid to put ground effects on it either... I'm the looks guy, I go for all the looks and the stylin, but I hardly have any preformance. Alot of times I get **** from the imports at school for my bodykit like "ohoo look he's got a Saleen body kit... maybe you should get the real car to go with it".. yeah its degrading but dude.. the sixers are in a class of their own, and even if its not "as good as before" or companies are making faster V6 models.. you're driving a piece of ****ing history in the auto world man, so do whatever you like to your car and don't listen to anyone that tells you otherwise. :punk:

95bstallion 03-01-2006 12:43 PM

The 3.8 has loads of potential. No one on this site will ever recognize it though. A guy a few miles away has a 475hp sixer.

95STANG 03-01-2006 01:30 PM

Im still 15 so far until next thursday.

This is true, but 94-98 gt's arent anything to special.

SilverStanga6 03-01-2006 07:01 PM

I believe V6s are good cars and are easy to handle. Some people I know jus swear that they are the **** just because they got a GT. Woopty F*n Doo. Im stickin with my 6er because I know it has tons of potential and it is possible after reading in those Mustang Enthusiasts magz that you can mod a V6 to the point that it will give a GT a run for its money if not whoop it. I got a lot of plans for my car. Starting with the basics...true dual exhaust with flow 40s, lower it a level or two, then put some 18s on them Saleen, crystal euro lights with a new sound system, vertical doors, a new grille, body kit and a superchip. After all that I should be good to go...anything else is up in the air.

super chip + exhaust and ya wont come near to blowwin the doors off any gt...

well... dont euro tail lights add like 100hp?

SilverStanga6 03-02-2006 09:22 PM

Im just doing whatever to my car to my own satisfaction. I could care less about a GT for real. Im not out to beat any1, but Im not just going to keep my 6 all stock n plain for no reason when I can do things to it to make it better. If you got a GT fine, do what u do. The euro lights thing, yea that was almost funny.

That's what people need to hear more around here.

Back when I first got my stang, I took it to high school the next day and was showin it to my friends after school and this other dude was like bowing down to it. I was like "what are you doing man, its just a car." And you know what he said?

"No, its not just a car. It's a mustang."
:punk:

And to this day I never heard from him again. Sometimes I wonder if he's out there somewhere with a stang of his own. I can only hope....

And that's a true story, word for word.

SilverStanga6 03-03-2006 10:36 AM

I agree. It`s not just a car, it`s a freakin Mustang. It don`t matter really because I think all Mustangs are just kool;from 6ers to Saleens to Mach 1s. I just like the car so I`m not going to knock anyone who has a stang. All of them in my opinion have loads of potential and great looks and performance. But I have seen some people out in where I live that just dog their stangs stright to s***. So I put them in my lil ol` category of idiots along with those fellas who push those good for nothing fart machine for an exhaust honda civics and think they are something. Stangs just f*n rule. Thats why Im just going to sitck with my 6 and mod it to where Im happy and its unique. It may be a 6 but when Im done with all I got planned for it, its going to be one sweet a** V6 for sure.:punk:

SilverStanga6 03-06-2006 07:46 AM

Ok. I know that this is off topic and out of the blue, but I figured maybe someone here can tell me. Anyway I`m looking at some 18x9 Saleen rims from EBAY with a "Buy it Now" price off $499.00 for all 4 wheels, and the shipping price says it`s $89.00 per 4 wheels. Now, does that mean I just pay one single payment of $89.00 for ALL 4 wheels as a set or do I pay $89.00 for EACH individual wheel? I tried asking the seller, but he never got back to me and this is my 1st time thinking about buying something off of EBAY so I`m just being cautious thats all. There`s no other reference on EBAY that can tell me so if anyone who has done anything with EBAY and thinks they can give me an answer, that will be kool. Thanx

SilverStanga6 03-22-2006 06:47 AM

Hey does any one know where I can possibly find a GT front bumper with the fog lights? I`m looking to replace my stock v6 front because someone hit me not to long ago and did little damage. It was only a couple of scratches, but I was going to replace it anyway regardless due to me modifying my ride. Also where can I get a the rear bumper for the exhaust cutouts because I`m going for true duels soon? I was thinking about going to the Ford dealership. Give me some feed.

232-MUSTANG 03-22-2006 07:26 AM

flows are good for a daily driver. they are fairly quiet during normal driving, but scream wen you step on it. underdrive pullies are supposed to get some power. and rear end gears will make it feel like you have more power
