Tire size

Hey all, Im new to these forums but have purchased many mods for my car 2001 Mustang
gt from AM.Anyway im in the need for some new rear tires, i currantly have mach 1 rims on my car with 255/45/18s the car im not sure what size the rims are 8S or 9S have a a racing suspension and the tires fill up the wells soo i dont wanna really go any taller just wider i all so have the same tire on the front and am wondering whats the widest tire this rim will support, Would like to go wider on the rear.
Thx ,for any advice i could get

8inch rim... 255 is about as wide as you should go.

9inch rim... 275 is as wide as you should go.

You need to find out the width of your rims.

OOPS sorry about the double post didnt see the tire section till it was too late .how do i find out i put a measuring tape in between the spokes ? but i don think thats right?.. is there any other way besides havin the tire pulled and measuring the bead to bead ? the rims came with the car soo i have no clue?

Doesnt sound like the wheels you have are stock... also cause no 2001 mustangs, except maybe a special edition or two, were offered with 18inch wheels from the factory.

get a flashlight.. the size is usually marked on the inside of one of the spokes.

no problem. GL finding it...its hard sometimes, but its there somewhere..I think its a DOT law of some sort that the manufacturer of the wheel has to put the size on it somewhere.

275/40's all around is what i'd go with. I like to have some sidewall. 275/35 is too thin for my taste.

I had looked into this but with 17' mach 1 rims, talked to some folks about this at some tire place..and they talked about how the tires would crown...and crowning tires was like a sin lol..
