Wheel Width on Bullitt?
 

Does anybody know the wheel width of the stock '09 Bullitt 18" wheel?

stock may be pretty small so im gonna take a shot at 255?

That would be the tire size not the rim size. They are 18x8.5" rims and I'm 90% sure of that. Trying to figure out the biggest size you can run?

Yeah, but don't think I want to go beyond 18"..."dubs" just look silly to me.
Really, my thinking is that larger diameter wheels are good for clearance needed for bigger brakes. Just for appearance? Not so much my bag.
But I'm sure not opposed to putting wider rubber on the road.

Oh, I do like the look of the factory Bullitt wheels, wouldn't want to get away from that. Are there firms that could widen the stock wheels safely? I'm thinking a fairly modest upgrade...something like 9" wide at front, 9 1/2 or 10 at the rear? Or, perhaps just go up to 9" at the rear, keep the stock size up front?

I also want to apologize for not putting this here in wheels & tires first. Still a newbie, I'll learn the site eventually, I hope. :o

Just bought the car new, an '09, at the end of May. Still trying to learn more about it. Specs, etc. But I can't seem to find a Chilton Manual.

No plans to return to autocrossing or track days...did that decades ago with a different car brand, and learned the hazards of trying to do both street and track with the same car. Only so far you can go before the car becomes pretty unbearable as a street machine. Too stiff, excess negative camber making the car "bump steer", etc.

I guess my eventual goal would be a good canyon carver while still being a car I could drive 500 miles and not be beaten to death when I arrive at my destination. Heck, with the Bullitt, maybe I'm already there?

Yeah there are a few places that widen wheels. And if your gonna do it I would do 10-11" wide in the rear and leave the fronts alone. or go to 9" but to me its not worth spending the money for an extra .5".

You could just run a 255 wide front tire and 275 wide rear tire for some more bite and a meaner look. But the Bullitt wheels do look really nice so I would keep them too if it was me.

Thanks, Dustin...you're giving me ideas. Being the cheapskate that I am, I probably won't be doing anything until tire replacement time gets near. Thanks for the website, too.

For anyybody interested, the original tires on my '09 Bullitt are BF Goodrich G Force T/A in 235/50 ZR 18 size.

I really don't understand why Ford made the wheels wider and put skinnier tires on the cars. Should of came with 255's all the way around.

Dustin, You're saying that 255/50 would fit on 8 1/2" wide wheels? Damn...I need to find some charts that say what sizes fit what wheels, rolling radius, etc.

(edit) Just did some playing on the tire chart link here. Seems that if I go with 255/45, I'm very close to the original rolling diameter while still able to use the original wheels. May do this @ tire replacement time...thanks for all the input. I'm loving this board already. :)

You could even run a 275 wide rear tire on those rims with no problems. Hell I go it on a 8" wide rim, with the extra 1/2" they will fit your wheels even better.
