DR Thread *Update*
Ok, so after yesterday, I definitely need some DR's..
I've got two 17/9 FR's that I can use as drag wheels, since I assume that I really don't need to get anything like 315's. So, I'll probably just leave the Sumi's on the back except for when I go to the track. Give me some Ideas, I'm not looking for the priciest, most expensive tire in the world, but I'd like something sticky and it doesn't necessarily have to have the longest life in the world, 'cause it won't be on the car all the time. I know I've seen basically slicks with two little grooves cut in them that are being called DR's, I'm not sure but that may be over kill.. lol |
Never overkill, you'll get a lot more traction and be able to drive a lot more aggressively without having to worry as much about wheel spin. Let me ask around and I'll see what I can find as for best bang for the buck dr wise.

Holy thread maker.
lol M/T ET Streets or Nitto drags. |
275 M/T drags found here: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Hoosiers are amazing as well also found here: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Either of one those for a track only tire for driving to the track on and making passes then driving home on would be the ticket for tons of traction. Can't go wrong with either one really. Toyo also has a new drag radial out but I don't know where you can get it or how it compares yet to the above tires. For your needs of a track only tire I would skip the Nitto drags and get something much more sticky. |
Hoosier daddy?

So Dustin, you think I should stick with a 275 then? I guess there's probably no real difference between a 275-295.. Damn, I didn't realize that DR's were so expensive.. lol May have to wait a week or two. :p

The only 295 you can get is a 295/45/17 and is gonna be big and make the car slower because of how tall it is. that 275 M/T or Hoosier will give you all the traction that little 2v can handle. Don't know what suspension mods you have but even a stock suspension car will hook up well with those tires. Plus they are gonna last a long time since you wont be DD those tires.
You could rock 315 nittos and they do fit a 9" rim as the cobra guys do it. But a 275 M/T or Hooiser is gonna be way stickier then that. |

Maximum Motorsports Bilstein shocks/struts, H&R Race springs, HD rear lower control arms, full length sub frame connectors (weld in), rear axle tubes welded, rear torque boxes reinforced & 3.73 FRPP gears. Also have the Quick release quadrant and firewall adjuster on order. I think I'm gonna go with the 275 Hoosiers when I can afford them. Probably be later this month. |
man you sure lucked into a car with mods already, that was a good find!

Congrats on the tires, you are gonna be a in for a ride the first time you let it rip down the track. Not a better feeling in the world then that first pass with actual good sticky tires and you just plant the car and take off.
I borrowed a set from a friend to make a few passes a few years ago and they hooked really well. |
tires should do you some good...dont get crazy since you are on stock axles. i would say lay off the dumps when you start cutting 1.6 60ft times. i almost got myself some M/T drag radials but i held out and actually bought some 15X8 welds with 26X10 ET drags wrapped around them for 250! i dont know how my broke ass affords all of this shit!
|
You are going to feel like someone kicked you in the ass I can remember the difference that 275 NT555Rs made on my buddies 5.0 when he put them on over his streets tires
you have more power, better suspension, and a stickier tire now all you have to do is find a track that's the right length |

So it's not just me then...My rear tires have SO little grip off of the line it's almost a joke. Good street tires, but my nitto extremes suck for racing.
