Winter Tires
Whats the best tires to get for when it snows? and is it possible to save my old tires, when i do get new ones, for summer time?
|
Just go to TireRack.com and take a browse, any take your pick. I have no experience with specificly snow tires or anything. I would pick some all-seasons unless it is like constant snow where you live.

well i'm planning on getting a new set of rims soon. dont want to spend money every year on new tires for winter time.
|
If your getting new rims, and need winter tires. Buy winter tires, mount them on your stock rims, store your current tires, buy new rims, get new tires or mount your old summer tires on the new rims. I use my stock rims with lower performance summer tires durring the cold month but I never see snow. The FR500 rims are used only durring the spring/summer.

thats what i want to do. i have no choice in using my car in the winter. so it sucks.

everyone loves blizzacks (sp) up there in the north east...the other winter tire are the dunlop m3's.
|
It would suck to have to have snow tires. That means I'd have 4 sets of tires. Summer tires, the "stock" tires, snow tires, and race tires(which I don't have yet).
|
im tempted to move to flordia so i never have to see snow again.
|
I like going to Florida every now and then, but living there is out of the question. Way too humid.

I use Dunlop Wintersports. They worked for me through an Ohio winter.

go to belletire. i am in the same boat you are in. i wish i didnt have to drive my mustang in the winter either. i forget what brand my tires are, i got snow tires and some cheap new rims, the whole package was about 600. now i just go to them when i feel snow is coming soon, they switch my snow and summer tires out for free, bag them up and put them in a locker in their garage for a few months until i come back. i makes my summer tires last much longer but unfortunately i will be needing a new set of those and a new rim this spring
also on a side note: i put sand in my trunk but make sure whatever you use it is well packed so it doesnt get out, sand and salt will rott your car. yes sand, but for insurance purposes if you have a bag of rocks or sand in your trunk in the middle of winter, you get hit, your insurance wont cover it it will sya those rocks aren't a needed part in the car and are dangerous, salt you could say you are taking home to your "water softener" ill check on the tires for you if you would like |
yeah man if you can. did you get the package online or a local store?
|
i got them at belle tire, the complete package. they also switch them out/rotate them or do whatever whenever you need it for free. i actually just put them on today so let me run outside and chekc what brand. The rims i put on dont look bad either, so i dont mess up my summer ones. The rims were about 64 each. brb to go check the tire brand.
ok they are wintermark magna grips 15 tire with pulse 5-spoke rims i hope this helps |
