What tires should I get?
 

I will be needing some new tires soon. Already wearing out the edges on these soft sidewall sumitumos. Thats why I dont like these tires so much, they flex in trhe corners too much. I want a tire with a nice stiff sidewall. They have to be good in the rain and possibly even snow and they have to be 315/35/17 in the back and 275/40/17 in the front. I dont know what I should go with.

yes they are the sumitumo HTRZ. I hate them. Only reason why I have them is because they came with the wheels I bought. I had a set of the same tires on my old wheels and they sucked then too. I am thinking maybe about some Goodyear F1 or the BFG G Force KD.....but the KD's arent good in the rain. Rains here in tennessee sometimes and I always get caught in it....

i beg to differ on your opinion that the BGF's KD's dont do good in the rain.

I have a set of BFGoodrich 315/35/17 T/A KD's on my 02 Mustang and they get very decent traction in the rain. I have no problem starting on a hill while at a red light, and I can stop, and get it on it half way decent when I make turn, or if I am coming out a store parking lot and traffic is coming, when it's raining...I can get on it good and my tires won't spin. Only time I have a problem, is I going through about an inch or more of standing water.

I like them very well. just don't drive them in the snow...because you probably wont be going anywhere. BTW i live in Tennessee too...live in just 20 minutes south of Nashville.

Well I havent used the BFG KD's yet, but I just assumed they were no good in the rain because KD stands for "killer dry". Thanks for your input they may be the next set of tires I buy. I had the g-force KDWS tires on my old wheels and I loved them........

Spring Hill is a nice area. I work in the franklin/brentwood/spring hill area alot....

KDW NT's are great in the rain so are the kuhmo MX's

I dunno I heard the KDW NTs suck from alot of people. Plus they dont make them in 315....

Sumitomos are the best deal for the price. $110 ea for 315's, you aint gunna come close to that.

My car has a KB on it with slightly over 400rwhp and I have no problems with the tire. You should get about 15k out of them also, and thats not exactly driving on them lightly...lol

I loved my BFG KDW NT's they were the best tire I have ever had. Amazing wet traction and even better dry. I never hydroplaned once with them and didnt have a problem with noise. I dont know how they would fare in snow though...My current tires are Michelin Pilot Sports, while they are a hair smaller than the KDW tires they performed very similar. For the cost difference I would prefer the KDW tires. WHile this doesnt help you that much other than to say BFG makes a bad ass tire so the KD would be alright for you.

What about drag radials?

Damn 15k from a street tire? you might as well just get nitto drags if your doing that kinda mileage.

Z rated tires bro, you wont see much better from any other soft tire.

In fact the hard tires wear unevenly and you will be changing them just as soon anyways...

But like I said, this isnt letting your grandma drive the car, I take the car to the track several times a year and I am not easy on them on the street.

They do suck for your 60' times, but any tire that is not a drag radial will suck at launching with 400rwhp.

Thats another reason why I hate these sumitumos. Theyre too soft! Its like 160 treadwear. Might as well go with the Nitto DRs.... The sidewall is thin also. Going into the corners hard, the front tires flex real bad. It wears the outside edges off my front tires. I know thats what it is because I had my car aligned and it still did it. Then I put the BFG G-force KDWS tires on the front and the problem completely went away. The BFGs have alot thicker sidewall. I just really dont think those tires are good for a 3000+lb car with bodyroll.....

Oh and my car has a supercharger too. I raced a bolt on GT from a dig yesterday and I came out of the hole pretty fast. Alot faster than he did, but once I put it to the floor it just went into wheelspin. Still pulled almost 2 cars on him through 1st gear but still, no street tire is going to hook up on this suspension at least. Im not looking for a tire thats gonna hook up, I have a set of weld wheels and 15" DRs for that. Just looking for a good lasting 315 tire that has a decent sidewall and is decent in the rain....Im looking for something to get me through until next summer.
