Tires on 17 x 10.5's?!?!!?

I have a stock suspension 04 GT with an aftermarket exhaust.....

Will the 315's fit no problem on 10.5's or should I tone down to 285/40/17's?

Opinions Please

04DarkShadowGT 03-31-2005 11:18 AM

No 315 are perfect for the 17 X 10.5s. I have them and Im lowered an inch. You will be fine.

dilo2001gt 03-31-2005 04:21 PM

What brand tire??

Yes, 315's will fit. Nitto's run smaller than other tires, so they'll fit easy. That being said, people run 315 BFG drag radials on those wheels, too.

wade95 04-02-2005 05:37 AM

Yupp, will fit. Friend of mine has Nitto DR 315's on his 04 Cobra. Whole lot of tire. Once I get my 10.5" Bullitts from here I will be doing the same thing.

I bought the wheels from partshopper.com for $287 shipped...shop around before you buy!

The tires are sumitomo HRTZ's....they are on special on tirerack right now!

I would like to go 285's on the back and 255's up front - is that okay to do on the bullits or will they be too small

Nofire 04-24-2005 12:34 AM

285's on back with stock bullitts would be pushing it. I run Nitto 275's and they bulge out quite a bit.

Are you guys noticing any type of performance loss or track time loss by going with the deep dish and bigger tires?

Not that Ive noticed so far.

04DarkShadowGT 05-09-2005 07:26 PM

There is certainly going to be more weight which means it will be slower, however its really not noticeable.

Btw the wheels arent that heavy, my 10.5 bullits the shipping weight was 25lbs. The tires are heavy mofos though.

Go 315 or you'll wish you did.

danbc21 06-12-2005 04:28 PM

I got 315/35/17 in the rear and 275/40/17 in the front, and I have no problems and it looks great to. If you get anything smaller you going wish you got 315’s

The weight of the rims is barley even a sacrafice compared to the advantages of having wider tires in the rear

MattJ 06-19-2005 11:17 PM

Besides, everyone likes to see some MEATS on the back of muscle cars, not skinnys on the back! 315s!!!

timstpetefl 07-05-2005 06:36 AM

Just dropped 315's on mine, I'm so very happy I did not go with a smaller tire......315 is a must if you have 10.5

01BlackGT 07-09-2005 08:51 AM

I am looking to get the 17x10.5's and was wondering what tire you guys would recommend? I want a good all around tire for daily driving but I also visit the track once in awhile and would like some good traction. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good all around tire that I could drive on every day? By the way I want 315's.

Badfish 07-11-2005 03:46 AM

Nitto 555's

I am completely happy with my Sumitomo's. Yes, they are very cheap, but you would not know it riding on them, and they grip like a dog at the track with traction control off. At $110 each for the 315's I really dont think you will find anything to compare.

Lances03SVT 07-11-2005 02:54 PM

My Sumitomo HTRZ's cost alot more but I love them too. $850 for all four.

madmatt 09-02-2005 05:00 AM

Dont mean to bring this back from the dead, but is everyone still happy with the Sumitomo's? Ill be ordering some in about a week. Just wanna see how the treadwear is and how they hook.

madmatt 09-02-2005 12:42 PM

Bueller? Anyone?

Lances03SVT 09-02-2005 01:55 PM

I love my HTRZ 2's still :) But like I said alot more expensive than the HTRZ'z.

WaterDR 09-02-2005 03:27 PM

Sumis are great here! I have no complaints. I run the 315's out back and the 275's in the front. Hook good, wear fine, quiet, and great on the wet roads.

I really can't see spending more on other brands especially 2 - 3 times as much. I would not hesitate to buy these tires again.

I also like the tread. They look more "old school". I am not a big fan of the goofy "lets charge more because they look bizzar" tread patterns. I think they look stupid especially on my car. But the Sumis seem just right.

madmatt 09-02-2005 05:44 PM

Good stuff, they are going to be ordered next week I think.

xcler8 09-21-2005 08:00 AM

Great tires...wet/dry traction I would say are WAY better than stock, and that price is still a killer deal. I will go back with the same tires when I need new ones!

FritoBandito 09-21-2005 06:22 PM

On tirerack.com they had some crappy reviews of the sumi's but I haven't had a single thing to complain about.
