tires
what size tires would you recommend putting on 18 x 8.5 rims?

This would go in the TIRE forum, moving.......
|
255 or 275
|
I'd go with a 275.
|
A 265/35/18 or a 275/40/18.
|
I'd probably go with a 255 or a 265.

when choosing your tire, you'll want to pay attention to the tire height or revs/mile. Stock is about 800. A good window is 790-810. Beyond that your speedo will be off by enough to become irritating or ticket worthy.
And 2K05GT is correct for that brand of tire but each manufacturer has their own specifications. If you go to www.tirerack.com and get the specifications of any tire you'll pull up a chart that looks exactly like the images that 2K05GT posted. Use that to make your decision an informed one. Too wide a tire will prevent the tire from performing optimally, too narrow is the same problem. You should have a good fit without much overhang or taper for proper performance. |
Go with 265. I have a friend with them on 8.5 chrome rims and he said that its a lot better than the stock 245 than he had. He said he can tell he has more traction.

265/40ZR18 avalable: BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KD and KDW The Michelin Pilot Continental Sport Contact 2 Goodyear-Tires Eagle F1 Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico Bridgestone Potenza |
EDIt... never mind this post... was stuck on 17" rims
back in a minute with updated research for 18" rim OK... new research is the same as the old. 265 is too wide for 8.5" rim. You should be using a full 9" rim for 265 and up. the correct sizing would be 255.40.18 this is exactly why I went all the way to 9". You get the biggest usable tire without breaking the bank and there's gobs of choices in tires for a 17x9" rim |
