sumitomo htr zII

whats every1's opinions on the sumitomo tire featured on the "May specials" page....also does anyone have or know weather 275/40/17 will fit on a 17 x8 rim and if you have that set up lemme se some pics llol thanx

mcmmotorsports 05-01-2006 04:02 PM

Knowing that the Sumos are sized small, the 275's should fit on your 17x8's with no problems.

Sumotomo's are decent, but you get what you pay for..
They are good cheap disposable tires. So if you burn em out all quicklike, you wont be too bummed cause they are dirt cheap.

I just got a set of 315 Sumitomo's and I can actually break them loose in second just as easily as my 245's. But for the price, I can't complain.

svtsnakebitn 05-03-2006 09:35 PM

I was going to get these then decided to get some Nitto 315 Drag Radials

dont put too much trust in them.. i've had some bad experiences in the rain with my 315 sumitomo's... when i first got them i thought i'd keep buying them because of the price but i just mounted some bfg drag radials and there's no way i can go back to sumitomos.

sumitomos are good for the price but dont expect great traction.

actually compared to the nittos, the sumos, side to side w/ the 555's were a little wider! taller too, same size 315/35/17

yes this is true... nittos run small/summis are "normal"/BFG's are oversized

so still knowing that sumi's are normal sized tires can i still go with the assumtion that 275's will fit my 17x8 rims? i think it should be fine.

svtsnakebitn 05-04-2006 01:01 PM

Yes, they should fit fine... there might be a little bulge but I wouldn't see why they wouldn't fit.... people put 315's on 7X9

Kinda off topic but where in Ohio are you from?

The Nittos were said to be LARGER than the Summis. That would make the Summis small, Nittos normal and BFGs oversized, right? Either way, I ran 275/40 Summis on my 8" Bullit wheels and they didn't offer much more traction than my wasted OEM Goodyears. 17x9s and 274/40 BFG G Force are the cats :censored:

Other than that, I'm just an FNG here with a 67 and an 04 GT

spike_africa 05-16-2006 11:58 AM

nitto's run smaller then most anything. I have 275/40/17 nittos on stock bullit wheels, looks good.

kcast 05-16-2006 02:31 PM

all i know is the sumos are bigger than the nittos, i put them side to side before i got the tires mounted

ChrisXoxide 05-17-2006 11:53 PM

Nittos run small.

Sumitomo is a standard size tire.

BFG are generally larger.

Sumitomo HTRZ II's are actually very good tires for traction, I've run through two sets of them, and a set of BFG, and Dunlop. Don't be confused to consider these "disposable" cheap tires. A low tread life generally results in better grip. They don't really have what would be considered a low tread life though. Kumho's have shorter lifespans (and benefit some in traction due to this)

Karls04GT 05-18-2006 01:08 AM

I'm not too of sure about Summis being good skins, I had a pair of HTRZ that went bald in FOUR months. They didn't offer much of a traction increase over the wasted Goodyears that were SMALLER!

stevemainian 05-18-2006 04:14 PM

I have summis, and I have nothing to complain about, not the stickiest tire, but for the price they cant be beat. I noticed better traction over stock; they're good in the rain too.

Cracker 05-18-2006 08:33 PM

I run em on my car but i got them for the price. The car i have them on is my daily driver. And i can tell you they are more then adequate in that department and have very good tread life and ride quality. As for the performance minded. I wouldnt call them my first pick. I can break traction with my stock motor and im running 315s. So id look elsewhere if you want performance. Oh yeah and they are very good tires in the rain. Not looking forward to snow next season though.

caballo 05-20-2006 03:02 AM

I've got these in 275/315 F/R on my stang and I drove through a blizzard in Vail/Aspen Co around Jan 10, 06 I was doing 5-10 mph for about 2.5 hours on I76. Never lost traction never spun out and never saw the road except for the reflectors on the side of the highway. They were great but now they're bald cause of repeated trips to the smoke show....
